As you know, a lot depends on your style of play and personally, I don't use Fat Mamas but enjoy using the sniper rifle and most of all when your first headshot takes off the helmet and the second for the kill but if I get mobbed then I often turn to the shotgun pop grenades, which seem to handle most things except the giant mutant.
I think if you didn’t have the AVG gun or fitted with AV2x rounds then probably the Ak47 with Feltrite rounds over normal standard AVG rounds would be recommended against heavy armoured guys. With the AVG's scope, fun to snipe adding AV2x rounds would be the dominate weapon i think between the two ammo types in the op.
So many weapons and ammo to pick, could just blow everything away with Viper rockets if you're mad and boring enough. I'm a Fat Boy/Mamma fan myself, poprockets, dynamite bolts, rail slugs and rebars kinda guy =D with wingsticks, plenty wingsticks.
I admit, rail slugs is cheating, but comically, wondering what it would look like seeing the slug come from nowhere :O
I mostly use the scope portion of the Railgun mainly to zoom in on unaware targets and sneak up behind them for a stealth-kill. Although the Railgun itself is good for that one glitch in the Shipyard Sewers mission during the first visit, because there's at least 2 mutants trapped within the walls (only killable with the Railgun Slugs, as it travels through walls).
But as far as the ammo itself goes, I normally switch from the AV2x Rounds to the Feltrite Rounds depending on the situation (as I find the Steel AR Rounds somewhat ineffective and mainly sell those for the extra money [good if you're playing on Nightmare/Ultra-Nightmare]), but if an enemy is close enough, then I use the Feltrite AR Rounds while using the aiming sights to zoom in on them.
well here's how I usually play when it comes to using armor-piercing rounds.......
Shrouded Clan: Feltrite AR Rounds (save the Fat Mammas for the mini-gunners)
Authority Troops: Authority AV2x Rounds (at a distance), Feltrite AR Rounds (if at medium distance), Fat Mammas (save those for the ones wearing exosuits if you're low), Pulse Shot (great on the ones packing energy shields)
Gearheads: same as the Authority Troops, but you can use the Pulse Shot on the ones packing flamethrowers by hitting their fuel tanks for ♥♥♥♥♥-and-giggles
