17gb download after installation, WTF?
This is the 2nd time this has happened, and i have verified the cache and still no change. Id sure love to play this game sometime this century. Anyone have any ideas how to solve this issue?

ive also looked at other forum posts and nothing seems to work. Even after a fresh install it still does the 17gb update.

If you installed your game from a retail DVD, Steam will download the 17GB update. But it's not an update, it's the entire game xD Because the DVD version of the game is too outdated. So, if you want to play it, I think you'll probably have to download those 17 GB of data :)

that seriously sucks. and even after finding out that you cant run your RAGE on max graphics cuz bethesda techs are morons when they made the new update. i had to find out the hard way of course, and through research to try and remedy the situation only to realize rage could prob run on a base wal-mart rig with a intel HD graphics onboard chipset thanks to the new update.

----Completely unrelated---

also after the 17gb installation nvidia decided to send me a "nvidia experience update" which told me my amd athlon x2 64 2.8 is slower than a 1.6 phenom 2 or a athlon 2. needless to say i sent their tech support a nasty email, even though it will probably recieved by some moron who thinks my 4gb vid card is also "under pre-reqs" for specific games.

ive played planetside 2 with 0% lag, swtor with 0% lag, DCUO 0% lag, and ive tested it out on about 15 other mmos, and i have never had a fps lag unless it was based on server ping due to overcrowded servers. thanks alot to mega servers. cuz ya know those are so much better than and wayyyy less laggier than a normal server LOLOLOLOL

I changed under 'Rage-Properties>Language' the language from german to english and suddenly the download size went from 17.4gb to 0.3gb. I think the retail-versions are english-version and steam downloads the other language-data after installation.

I had a similar problem with skyrim. I bought the german version, after a playthrough I wanted to play skyrim in english. I switched the language and on the next startup steam downloaded an update of 2gb.

but jeez Skyrim with all DLC only takes up 13GB and it's a whole lot more
game you gotta admit.

I enjoyed the game; the whole fallot with vehicles vibe and of course the races
but still 23 GB seems like a LOT of HD space.

i think part of the 23GB is probably due to the IDTech-5 engine itself maybe

It's the largest install on this comp which would likely mean
it's the largest install I've ever had. Just seems huge for what it
is; somewhat free-roam but not a ginormous map.

Again it's a fun game but for someone who has to consider download
size because they don't have 'unlimited' service or perhaps not
a blazing fast connection; it could be a dealbreaker.
I bought it retail and wasn't really paying attention but I sure would
have noticed a 17GB update. I probably had around 3 or 4GB updated
including the Scorcher dlc.

my internet connection sucks ass, but I still managed to successfully download and play it
