Can anyone help me with grenade throwing please?
I can't figure out how to equip my grenades for throwing let alone cooking! Also, I seem to have lost the ability to Q throw the wing things. The only way I've managed to throw a grenade so far, is clicking 'use' from the inventory box, and that can't be right can it?

Press the function keys (F1 through F4) to cycle between different special attacks. Hold down the 'Q' key to cook grenades.

good explanation, nice of you to go to the effort.

Thanx lionhart, but as kittehoverlord points out, it's not just that. :)
Thanx kittehoverlord, will try that. It's handy to know that you cook them with Q too. Who needs girl bandits with Loosum around! I bought the rumbling in the caves DLC, so I've met Sarah too, Wow! Now if this were a proper RPG, I would find some way of accessing both those babes! :)
ps gameburn, yes it is nice of kittehoverlord to go to the the effort, I mean ALL that typing! :)
I find that as a generalisation, the people who play RPG type games are a very helpfull crew, unlike the FPS crowd, who, on the whole, just snipe! :)

You must first select them in your inventory, then click ``Assign'', and to place them on the 4 square diagonal grid by selecting the slot you wish to fill. I think it goes clockwise, so the top grid location will be as lionhart said ( F1 key ) then so on so forth. Then once you have selected the grenade in your first grid ( quick use slot ) by pressing F1, you aim at the bandit's ( or authority soldier, mutant, or funny looking canister ) and press Q.

I merely used the grenades for scaring bandits out from their cover so I could shoot them in the crotch or head. I never really ``cooked'' them. I was awfully partial to the Settler's Pistol and Fat Boy ammunition.

If only there were girl bandits and I could shoot off all their armor.....

I only "cook" the grenades (both HE and EMP) just at the precise moment before a bandit or Authority soldier went to whatever hiding spot they're at, and the explosion/power surge catches them off-guard.

Thanx SgtD, another usefull tip! :) Wish I'd read it before diving in again.
I've just been through the refinery section of the caves DLC, got loads of extra goodies, but boy did I have to earn them! Most serious opposition so far. I think I was getting a bit cocky and that's taken some of the swagger out of my walk! :)

no problem, but I usually save the Scorchers missions until i'm finished with the main story campaign first, as I like to have all weapons and recipes at my disposal. Because the Scorchers DLC can be quite tough in a few areas (the Refinery area being the most notorious) if you go in unprepared.

But for the Refinery mission, the area where you briefly get trapped inside with Scorcher guys coming in after you, I usually activate an Adrenaline Overdrive, a Regenerative Infusion, and the Authority Augmenter (aka "Quad-Damage"), and just basically go-to-town on those dude with the Nailgun.

More excellent advice Sgt.D, tho a tad too late in my case. Yeah, that part where you're locked in the burner is intense! I found the nail gun to be not so impressive, but then I wasn't on Overdrive. I found the shotgun, up close and personal, to be most helpfull. :)
I wanted to save the Scorchers DLC, but not only was I prompted loads to do it, but when I played the free weekend, I got stuck in Wellsprings trying to win a race to get guns for my buggy before they'd let me travel the wastelands, so I thought I'd better do it in case I couldn't get back for ages! I'm just not good at driving vehicles using WASD, well, I'm fine with W&S it's the A&D that scupper me! One of the reasons I bought Rage, is to hopefully improve my WASD driving skills. The first game I got hooked on was Halo on PC. I used to luv driving the warthog, especially when my gunner would yahoo and complement me on my xtreme driving! That was mouse steering tho, much easier and more intuitive! :)

the Nails can be pretty handy if you have the Quad-Damage powerup activated, but the Rebar and Railgun Slugs are the most useful (particularly the Slugs, as that can kill enemies that are sometimes trapped inside of walls (I usually come across this glitch in one the Sewer areas)

Thanx guys,
More great advice Sgt.D, Rebar is good, but takes time to load. I'm stocked up on Slugs and lookin forward to seein what they can do! Thanx for the tip on the sewers. :)
kittenhoverlord, I hear what you're saying about looting the bandits, tho i wonder how much you get from each one. I discovered a glitch in the garage level, whereby you could activate the gun buggy and retire to the room before, and the game justs keeps sending in bandits! I'm not sure how many I killed with my fists, but I got several hundred dollars from it, oh, and a 13 on the obssessive compulsive! :)
Haven't met Ginny yet, but I look forward to it! :)
Good gameing :)

plus, the only mutant whose bodies are lootable, are the Slime Mutants (which usually drops an Adrenal Gland and Antiseptic Formula when killed)

More usefull advice Sgt.D, thanx. I was wondering where or how I get their adrenal glands.
Are there quite a few of them in the sewers? coz I need some of their glands to make adrenaline boost, tho I'm not sure exactly how that affects me. I used my only one accidentally in the bash TV challenge, and expected things to slow down, but I didn't notice any great discernable affect!? Mind you, it was pretty hectic at the time! :)

yes, when you enter the Sewers on your first visit, there should be a lootable pile of bones somewhere, containing a Mutant Adrenal Gland and some other ingredients. What the Adrenaline Overdrive does, is that it temporarily increases your max-health, allowing you to take more punishment. For example, if you were to complete the final level in the Scorchers job path with 199-health (there's gonna be some Desert Spores by the bottom stairs at the beginning), activating one will increase it closer to 400 (similar to the Mega-Health in the original "Quake"). Not to mention, by exploring the Sewers, you'll also gain access to the Rocket Launcher early (as well as buying ammo for it at the shops), giving you a massive advantage against the Giant Mutant boss fight in Dead City (i've kicked his ass many times taking no damage by getting the Rocket Launcher early).

Oh, and speaking of the Dead City, if you re-enter there immediately after completing the Double-Defib mission for Doctor Kvasir (after he installs the defib upgrade first), you'll have an opportunity to not only kill/loot more mutants again, but you can also loot the numerous bone-piles laying around, containing anything from money, ammo, and ingredients (very useful if you're playing on Hard/Nightmare/Ultra-Nightmare).

And as an added tidbit, look everywhere for Fetrite Crystals, and I do mean EVERYWHERE!!!! The reason for this, is because if you manage to collect 20 crystals from the very start of the game (there's 2 pieces right there at the Refinery entrance just past the Outrigger Settlement), up until after you complete The Well mission for Carlson, stop by the Second Chance Bar and see a patron named Jacob. Because doing this and exchanging the 20 crystals, in return, he gives you a Defib recharge upgrade (and don't worry about losing the crystals, you'll actually gain alot more through 2 Feltrite Tempests and a Feltrite Storm event).
