If I had to choose the one, it would probably be either combat shotgun (feel) or Striker crossbow... OR the pistol. I don't know, I like when the gun feels great and has various very different ammo variations.
Also, now that I think about it, combat shotgun (single barrel) with pop rockets is even cooler than double-barrelled. Same effect, but the weapon design is better :D
That said, the pistol with fat mamas and the shotgun with pulse ammo are both great for tearing the heads of armoured enemies. Fat mamas with Authority Augmenter takes out Large Mutants and Krakens in seconds. The crossbow with explosive bolts is perfect for dealing with enemies you can't loot (like Jackals on distant platforms).
Also, try the mutant levels using only crossbow, wingstick, and fists. Only switch to shotgun if things get hairy.
Overall, I'd say pop rockets, rocket launcher, grenades, bomb cars, rail slugs, and BFG ammo are pretty useless. You can't loot the bodies, and they just aren't the best choice when you usually have plenty of cover and plenty of time to focus on headshots. Pop rockets feel really awesome the first time you start using them, though.
actually dude, using the Double-Barrel Shotgun loaded with Pop Rockets stuns Large Mutants and Krakens for several seconds, due to its knock-back effect, allowing you to pump more rounds into them to kill them. And activating the Quad-Damage will pretty much one-shot them to death.
But in fights with enemies hiding far away it was the sniper, best weapon for the job.
and there's a reason why I save the Pop Rockets for those 2 big mutants as explained above, as their bodies cannot be looted
After that, Striker Bow with the TNT ammo... that's just good fun for all parties involved.
