Pistol and Shotgun Mostly

Who here primarily used the shotgun and pistol through most of the game up until the last chapter? Personally I never found a use for anything else other than saving as a backup if my two main guns ran outta ammo.

i use rocket launcher, pistol, shotgun on occation, and generally i stay away from the machine guns.

I personally like to simply punch most mutants and bad guys that I can around the earhole after you have snuck up on them (best if you Anarchy Edition) and for a bit of extra fun use the nail gun with reo upgrade. Wingsticks aren't bad either. SB is right, don't under estimate the usefulness of the crossbow, quiet and deadly!

I used the rebar gun (nailgun). 1 hit kills everything, and it's cool.

I use mostly everything, but I do end up replacing the Assault Rifle with the Authority Machine Gun, as I find that more accurate (especially with the laser sight upgrade for better hip-firing). although I do tend to use the Assault Rifle w/Feltrite Rounds if the need arises.

For sure. I know that very well just curious as to what others used. I was very fond of the pistol and shotgun as my go-to weapons until I ran out of ammo.

That is just bad game design - every level follows the same basic set-up

Minimal Stealth - little use for crossbow - especially electro bolts (you use them in water like twice)
Very few long range firefights - Little use for Sniper rifle
Enemies are bullet sponges and move fast - Assault rifles are null

Corridor shooting with multiple enemies rushing you - Shotgun is the winner

The AR has 2 upgrades that improve performance dramatically, but it still does not have a lot of hitting power, (even using Feltrite Rounds). Direct hits with Electro Bolts (and usually only one), will drop almost anything. Dynamic bolts are devestating but leave you nothing to pick up (i.e. ammo etc.) as afterwards there is nothing left except mess. (Some of these make great in-game shots). The pistol combined with the 'Mono Scope' and 'Fat Mommas' with drop even the large Mutants and Heavily Armoured enemies with 4 - 5 - head shots. For fun, set loose 2 little Sentry Bots and stand back watch the fun and pick off those you want to take out yourself. In the sewer tunnels I use fists only as a rule. I guess that's what makes this game interesting as everyone has a different view of what to do.

Yes you are absolutely right, OK if you are in a sewer tunnel or similar but out in the open they are a bit useless. Tell me something, I like the full page grahics you and some other members have on your 'Profile Pages', how do you do that? Regards.

Strangely enough, found myself using pretty much everything. Pistol with a mono scope is especially great. Not a lot of shotgun though, mostly due to weird inertia to character movement, strafing doesn't feel right to me at all.

These are profile backgrounds, you can get them by crafting badges or you can buy them in the market.

Yes that's true, but the only enemies that rush you are the mutants (which is one reason why I don't like fighting them, it's kind of boring just shotgunning them over and over).

Most human opponents have far better AI and they make much better use of cover, so there are a lot more options for taking them out. I have found that the crossbow, the sniper rifle, the nailgun with rebar, and the pistol with monoscope are all excellent weapons for precision shooting, which is exactly the kind of combat I like best in an FPS. To me there is nothing more satisfying than peeking around a corner and taking out a tough enemy with a single well-placed headshot.

The only weapon I don't like at all is the assault rifle. It has terrible accuracy (even with the two optional upgrades you can buy), and when it does hit it hardly does any damage. I sell all of the assault rifle ammo I collect and use the money to buy more crossbow bolts.

Yes, the ammo types make the pistol (with scope) and shotgun AMAZING to use. The Fat Mamas and exploding shotgun shells were my favorites... advanced wingsticks were pretty cool also.
Some of the better weapons I have ever experienced were in The Saboteur, when you upgrade any weapon to "Terror" level, -Look out!
