Weapons: Accuracy, damage, and ammo?
finding guides on this game about how accurate some of the weapons are is hard because when you type rage in and whatever else you basically get a ton of other games that have rage as a mechanic. anyway...

i'm trying to figure out the nail-gun compared to the steel AR and the authority AR and wether their ammo's make a big difference. to me it seems that everything is a bullet sponge no matter the ammo unless it's a rocket launcher.

when i shoot a helmet off do i switch ammo? and does anyone who uses a controller find that aiming up or down is.

Update:
is this like a real FPS or is this game like Hitman: Blood Money? meaning: does aiming down sight increase accuracy?

update:
so i played the game and for anyone in the future i wanted them to know.

-some ammo types have less spread and kick than other ammo, most notable on the Authority machine gun.

-at least on the authority machine gun, the armor peircing rounds don't have a penalty for hitting non-armored targets.

-some guns are better than others, and the steel assault rifle sucks when you get the authority gun. the nail-gun's AR rounds have alot of kick making it a slightly better choice than the settler AR, however the other ammo is great. the settler pistal, with Fat Momma ammo sums it up when it says "if momma can't kill it RUN!". it's a truley devasting ammo and i dare say it can peirce armor because it does better than the sniper rifle. the crossbow losses it's punch after awhile with the other bolts unless you get a shot right on the head. the sniper rifle is lame once you get Fat Momma's.

i wish the sniper rifle had feltrite ammo.

real FPS, yes amming does help with accuracy.... the AR's are ineffective at higher difficulties, as you can unload an entire clip and not kill things; the nail gun is more accurate whether you are aiming or not in comparison to both the autamitc guns.

if your going for more damage and less accuracy the shotgun is a good choice, however it is slower to fire and reload (except the rail/rebar atachments for the nailgun and rocket launcher).

if you want damage and accuracy go for the rocket launcher, usually one hit kills for most things except giant mutants... (how many rockets to kill giant mutants is dependent on difficulty)

edit:
the reason its hard to search for RAGE specific stuff is because there are movies with rage in the name and now (after rage has been released) there are other games being released with rage in the title... not to mention the extra garbage from 'rage quite' and 'raging' etc.

so you have to get specific in search params:
rage game 'mods, gun affectiveness, whatever'....

Wingsticks! I use a ton of them in RAGE
if you want damage and accuracy, either the Sniper Rifle or the Settlers Pistol upgraded with the Monocular, and loaded with Fat Mammas (which deals extreme damage on heavies and shoots off an Authority soldier's head with a single shot)
to every bullet a idea.
great answer mr Nukem.
by the way: siedler pistol has a lot capacy. hard guns not always fits. the plasma gun is awfull but in the end level really needfull. bfg ammo sucks. fat mamas rules. steel amo rocks but needs lot of them to kill a hard one enemie.
not all words for you mr nukem but a few of them :-).

for me, I use the Feltrite AR Rounds for the Assault Rifle, because of it being armor-piercing ammo. so I just collect the Steel rounds and sell them off for the Feltrite rounds.

but the Fat Mammas are best used on the Shrouded/Gearhead heavies (so you can loot their bodies), as well as the Authority Elites

Years ago I found the that using the wingsticks to concerve ammo or go stealth
The pistol with different types of ammo for most enemies and a scope for easier shots
The shotgun for pretty much everything aside from stealth
The rocket launcher for the big guys if you are out of explosive shotgun ammo

Overall I found using the pistol and shotgun as the only guns I really needed. The pistol is great especially with fat mamma's later in the game while the shotgun is nearly a swiss army knife in how effective it is especially with explosive ammo.

authority armor pierce rounds have significantly less kick, making it a bearable weapon. i did not know that. the normal ammo is like a toddler trying to guide a firehose, the other ammo is very steady.

also it does way more damage than the settler AR.
