Cant install from disc
I just bought RAGE. I would like to install it via the disk rather than downloading it through steam. I have inserted the disk. Does not appear under My Computer nor do any install options appear. Has anyone else had this problem/ does anyone know the solution?

I don't know the solution to the problem as I have only the download version, but:

If you manage to install it from disc, Steam will want to update the game and it will download 19 GB update from internet, anyway.

Still saving the initial 17gb download would be preferable

Doesn't the Steam "initial" download already contain the update? Steam should download the latest version of the game and only update it after a new version is released.

I only got the information about 19 GB update from this thread. I don't remember having to download 17 GB first and next a 19 GB update, but only downloading all in one go (~24 GB on disk, but the download package could have been compressed).

either way i bought the disks for a reason and would like to get the game off them to start with even if i have to then download an update. is there anyway to actually ask steam support for help cause all they've done is redirect me to bethseda support

Does the content of the disc get displayed when you try browsing it, or is it showing as empty or no disc in drive?

it shows no disk in drive which is weird as i have used it for other games

Well, in this case I can't help much. You can try the disc in another drive (e.g. friend's computer, or something), and if it isn't detected there either, then the disc is broken.

EDIT: Is it Blu-ray disc, and do you have Blu-ray drive?

couldnt exaclty say it an LG that uses hl-dt-st dvdram gh22ns95 driver

If you have only one disc for the game, then it's a Blu-ray disc, which can't be read with your DVD drive. The DVD edition of the game should have 3 DVD discs.

yeah i have the 3 discs and when put in they sort of span but didnt do the full sort of whirr you get when ones actaull going
