The game limits your progress of the DLC missions. For instance, if the next DLC mission takes place in Wellspring, but you haven't arrived there yet with the main plot, you will get a notification saying that you have to progress with the plot to gain access to the next DLC mission.
My first playthrough included the DLC and I simply did missions in accordance with the main plot (so I did the first mission immediately after the ghost hideout, I did the mission near the Outriggers during other assignments taking place there, etc.)
Thank you very much for the information! I wasn't quite sure what format the DLC missions followed, but that helps out a ton. Knowing that, I'll likely just do each DLC mission as it becomes available. Thanks again!
I'm glad I could help :)
I haven't tried it myself, but there is a "scenario selection" option available. Assuming you got to Wellspring during one of your playthroughs, try selecting that scenario so you don't have to go there on your own. I'm not sure however if the DLC missions will stay unsolved, but intuition tells me they will be available.
Actually give me a couple of minutes, I'll check it.
EDIT:
Sadly, the game appears to store no data about beaten scenarios in the cloud and since I've recently reinstalled RAGE I can't tell you anything now. Try my idea on your own and tell me if it helped.
The way the DLC was handled is a matter of personal taste. I prefer it to be tied into the game instead of being a stand-alone campaign. To each their own.
not to mention, it also helps to do the Hagar Caves and get the assault rifle for free (paying ONLY for the 2 weapon upgrades)
However, I don't reccomend proceeding to the "Scorched Refinement" quest, as it it almost unfairly difficult for low-level players, especially in comparison to it's preceeding quest.
So did I. Also I didn't know that the cloud save saved nothing :(
I just played Hagar's Cave and as a new player it was quite a bit more difficult than the first few missions I played, and definitely requires you to understand how to use all your gear. I nearly ran out of ammo a few times due to not understanding how to deal with some of the new enemies. And make sure you know how to throw a grenade, and how to quick-heal with the bandages (using quick access slots of F1-F4), because you can get mobbed - first time that happened to me in the game and I couldn't backpedal fast enough, reload, and change weapons smoothly. Be comfortable with all of the keypresses.
Yeah, I thought it was a standalone. I guess I will just follow some of the recommendations on this thread and play portions of the dlc with the base game.
