At what point in the campaign should I play The Scorchers?
I know the DLC is available from just about the start of the game, but that seems a little early to jump into it. At what point during the campaign is it best to start the DLC quest line so that it blends in well with the rest of the game?

As far as the plot goes, it doesn't really matter. The DLC deals only with the Scorchers clan, which doesn't appear during the main plot line except for random car fights.

The game limits your progress of the DLC missions. For instance, if the next DLC mission takes place in Wellspring, but you haven't arrived there yet with the main plot, you will get a notification saying that you have to progress with the plot to gain access to the next DLC mission.

My first playthrough included the DLC and I simply did missions in accordance with the main plot (so I did the first mission immediately after the ghost hideout, I did the mission near the Outriggers during other assignments taking place there, etc.)

Thank you very much for the information! I wasn't quite sure what format the DLC missions followed, but that helps out a ton. Knowing that, I'll likely just do each DLC mission as it becomes available. Thanks again!

That's exactly what I did - I completed DLC missions as they became available and I certainly had fun doing that. I recommend to finish the whole DLC before you move to Subway Town as the atmosphere slightly changes once you do that.

I'm glad I could help :)

I came here to find out why I couldn't run my DLC which I've just purchased. So are you guys telling me the DLC ISN'T a stand alone game then and only 'bits' of it play as you play the main game AGAIN?! :( That's not what I bought it for or rather not how I understood it before I purchased it. I thought it was a 2 hour stand alone game. So I'm wrong and you only gets bits and pieces during the game where the new content 'kicks in'? Oh well first and last time I buy DLCs!! :(

Having just finished my third play through of the game, I just wanted something a bit different so PLEASE someone, tell me I can play The Scorchers WITHOUT having to play through the blasted main game AGAIN?! If not why on earth didn't it blasted well SAY SO! I'd never have bought it otherwise, or at least not today and probably not until next time I dug out the game to play again but that probably wouldn't have been for AT LEAST another 6 months. I'll wait patiently for someone to clarify and explain. Thanks.

What exactly is there to clarify and explain? As you noticed yourself - the DLC is tied into the main game and if you want to play it "in one piece" you at least have to get to Wellspring.

I haven't tried it myself, but there is a "scenario selection" option available. Assuming you got to Wellspring during one of your playthroughs, try selecting that scenario so you don't have to go there on your own. I'm not sure however if the DLC missions will stay unsolved, but intuition tells me they will be available.

Actually give me a couple of minutes, I'll check it.

EDIT:

Sadly, the game appears to store no data about beaten scenarios in the cloud and since I've recently reinstalled RAGE I can't tell you anything now. Try my idea on your own and tell me if it helped.

The way the DLC was handled is a matter of personal taste. I prefer it to be tied into the game instead of being a stand-alone campaign. To each their own.

I usually play the first mission fairly early like right before the mission that unlocks wellspring to get the nailgun and that awesome rebar harpoon. The rest I found pretty difficult until later

not to mention, it also helps to do the Hagar Caves and get the assault rifle for free (paying ONLY for the 2 weapon upgrades)

Another forum member suggested saving the last couple Scorcher missions for after you beat the main campaign as they're a much more dramatic ending to the game.

I'd reccomend playing "Hagar Caves" (the first quest) right after it's been enabled. It's honestly even easier than the Ghost Hideout quest, so you shouldn't have any trouble. Plus, you can grab a Settler's Assault Rifle and Nail Gun while you're at it, which can come in handy early on.

However, I don't reccomend proceeding to the "Scorched Refinement" quest, as it it almost unfairly difficult for low-level players, especially in comparison to it's preceeding quest.

Just got Scorchers dlc today during the current sale. I didn't know you are supposed to play it concurrently with the main game.

I just played Hagar's Cave and as a new player it was quite a bit more difficult than the first few missions I played, and definitely requires you to understand how to use all your gear. I nearly ran out of ammo a few times due to not understanding how to deal with some of the new enemies. And make sure you know how to throw a grenade, and how to quick-heal with the bandages (using quick access slots of F1-F4), because you can get mobbed - first time that happened to me in the game and I couldn't backpedal fast enough, reload, and change weapons smoothly. Be comfortable with all of the keypresses.

Yeah, I thought it was a standalone. I guess I will just follow some of the recommendations on this thread and play portions of the dlc with the base game.
