However I have to agree with what people have been saying. We need new maps, preferably from other theatres to go with the new divisions. I remember you guys saying that you could not port the SD44 maps due to the download size it would balloon the game to. But as I said before. People can install and uninstall free or paid DLC at will if they want to pick and choose.
As for maps being more than most RTS. What are you comparing this game to? Most games do not have a giant map sliced into different pieces or rotated or even the same map simply widened for more players considered different maps in their counts. They only count unique maps.
Also most of the popular RTS games have modded map packs to download. DOW1, Homeworld 2 and any other RTS games that have withstood the test of time... consider also AOEIV which has a random map generator, different experience every time.
I remember Homeworld Deserts of Kharak had only a few maps but that was a niche cut and run game. That may be what you are refering to?
New Divisions on the same old maps makes the experience more or less the same. Terrain is such a huge feature and determinate of tactics and strategy regardless of ww2 equipment type. Not being able to adapt on the fly to new environments and knowing exactly where every bend and corner is makes it a little easier to play and for experienced players a huge advantage in multiplayer games. Because it has been years since release their was never (apart from release) an influx of maps large enough to take time to learn. You were never overwhelmed to the point of not learning everything in one night from a single released map at a time. Add to this that the terrain and colours on virtually all but a few of the maps in sd2 are pretty much the same, it's a theatre thing I guess, flat maps with flat hills and endless steppes.
Love to see if the new WARNO tall buildings that were originally going to be in SD2 might make it in.
Right now the focus is mainly just on Op.Bagration theatre of operations and to some extend the northern theatre of Karelian Isthmus but with all the units we got, there could be plenty more great scenarios like Kursk, Narva, Kurland pocket Seelow Heights, Urban warfare like Charkow, Kiev, Minsk Warsaw, Breslau, Königsberg and even Berlin. I know and understand that it will take good amounts of time to create maps but I'm certain that this would be the right stuff people are willing to spend their money on rather to get more divisions which could be created ingame by the players themselves !
Regarding maps. I understand the reason you cannot add new maps to the base game (memory space on people's hard drives). However, would it not be possible to add a map DLC & let players decide if they have the capacity to store it?
This would mean a two tier multiplayer system - Standard & expanded. In standard, everyone goes into the same pool & can only be matched on the maps in the base game. In expanded, players who have the extra maps (the hardcore of players) can be matched against standard players but also expanded players & utilise the extra maps.
This keeps the base game within the memory limits but also allows for players to customise, should they wish to. I think an maps expansion would be a good seller. It would shut up most of the whiners (except the Jagdtiger & 1st SS types). You could add a few Western front maps & bulk it out by re-working some of the existing eastern front maps. Cropping or rotating them to add variety, or simply re-arranging flags to create different dynamics in battles.
This is just a suggestion, based on my very limited knowledge of the complexities of implementing such a plan, but in theory, it seems like a way to keep your hardcore players engaged, while not making the game inaccessible to new or casual players.
Furthermore, in 10 vs 10 again, there is still a huge inbalance beetween allied and germany due mostly to the abuse of KT decks. Ridiculous to have 3 to 5 KTs out 2 minutes into a game, dont you think ? A long time ago, the option to limit the number of KT decks allowed in a 10vs10 to one or 2 has been suggested but never acted upon.
This to say that i like the game, but before going all out on new things, might be usefull to adress the few problems that really bother people like me that have been with you for a while.
Without those changes, no use buying more DLCs. I'd rather quit steel division and move to Warno where things are not so unbalanced.
Good luck...
we need the 4 basic food groups
jungle/forest
desert
snow
Tropics
I remember SD44 deal with king tiger is hard already in open map but if forest map hehe staghound forever :)
But yeah it should not allow to spam king tiger or the available is crazy I'm tired of fight king tiger in this game and gave up on 10v10 i have many good hour with SD44 but SD2 it a bit spam but it fun just balance quite bad
