I see , i was just suggesting and tbh didnt know how viable they actually were (this goes for all divisions listed) . Although Eugene has chosen incomplete divisions before , task force 45 exc). But i admit i am no expert , i would just like to see new romanian axis and allied divisions , same with a new division for Hungary or two.
Some really good points!
on a general notice: games that live long give people the freedom to play how they want.
These are all flowers, what are the official data on the killed French civilians by dear allies. 50 thousand civilians killed. Bombing, shelling.
the 23rd ss Nederland or better known and with longer service as the 4th ss panzergrendier brigade nederland is my favorite german unit being Dutch. Already having french units i'd think this would be an amazing adition! praised for being hard and valiant fighters by their commanders they fought to the bitter end around leningrad, narva and on one of the in game maps tannenberg where they together with danmark, norge and langemarck even knocked out 110 soviet tanks in one day! the 4 ss pnzrgren brig nederland was also equipped with stugs from the SS-Panzerjäger-Abteilung 54 "Nederland" which the first company of featured the stug ace Derk-elsko Bruins who took out 12 soviet tanks at the battle of Narva. Not only that but this brigade features well known Dutch Knight's cross holder (and first foreign soldier to receive the knight's cross) Gerard Mooyman who serviced a PaK 97/38 and took out 13 tanks on one day at lake ladoga stopping the attack and his eventual tally was 23 tanks knocked out. I once saw some german ww2 footage on instagram of Derk-elsko Bruins in the copula of his stug.
The sources i used for this is from an E book i own that is supported with pictures and everything called: Dutch Waffen-SS Legion & Brigade 1941-44 by Massimiliano Afiero and Ramiro Bujeiro.
i'd love to see it being added as it was a very interesting brigade and together with the spanish the only missing foreign legions (yes there still is the italian SS but they wouldn't be as unique since this nationalities already is in the game. Still, the game lacks representation of foreign nationalities in the Divisions like Nordland and Wiking which featured: Finnish, Dutch, Belgian, Danish and Norwegian soldiers yet the majority isn't represented like the Westland Regiment in the 5.SS Wiking.
Very much so. If they would look at Supreme Commander or Dawn of War (two games with absurdly fanatical communities), then Eugen would really find some great features that used to be staples in RTS games.
Also more mod support would be great, but I understand why that is limited, since it would greatly reduce their ability to sell division DLC, if people went ahead and modded in whatever division they wanted or made new ones, especially with new units. With SU-100s and Pershings...
New models are more problematic, but that's because game uses some pretty old vesrion of modeling kit, which is hard to find. StormfrontOst'41(Red Storm'44 sucsessor mod about Eastern front in 1941) is going to feature some new models.
Biggest issue is that mods are forced to require DLC, if they use content from it, which limits an audience. It's a price for being able to look through DLC content in mod files.
But that's exactly it. A functional and capable mod-kit really makes games more useful. I wouldn't have bought the DLC for Mechwarrior 5, if MercTech and YAM didn't exist. Same for Warhammer 2.
Both those games are being held up by the mod community. And let's not even mention the juggernaut that is Skyrim/Fallout...
So, what I am saying is: this game either needs vastly improved DLC or a full mod kit. But with the current content, I'll keep playing it a bit, but see no reason to purchase any additional DLC or WARNO for that matter. Because I am pretty sure that WARNO will have a similar publishing policy.
Not exactly like there aren't enough good games out there.
What Steel Division modding truly lacks is: a)map editor, b)more common modeling kit, and c)ability to add new AG campaigns or overhaul existing ones. And here, I'd agree that we are unlikely to see any of those due to DLC policy.
I was wondering whether you could give us an update on the map editor?
also
Are you thinking about porting Steel Division Normandy maps to Steel Division 2, since the Western Divisions feel a bit out of place on Eastern maps imo ;)
Keep up the work!
I have sympathy with those asking for more game modes & editors etc... From my point of view, I've had many hundreds of entertainment out of this game & have found it great value for money. You don't need to buy DLC to be competitive as there are some excellent base game divisions to pick from. I've purchased all the DLC because I wanted to play them & support the developers.
Have I had frustrations, yes but in life you can't have everything you want all the time. When you look at what's going on in the world right now, throwing a tantrum on steam seems like the epitome of first world problems.
