If the enemy attacks one of your groups that didn't move, you get the advantage.
If both your group and the enemy's group moved in the strategic turn, no one gets the advantage and map control is split evenly.
But I am talking about a different mechanic. There are some battles (against defenders who did NOT dig in), where the defender has the advantage of owning about 70 % of the map. And some battles, where the defender does not own 70 % of the map.
Thanks for the explanation. This could make sense. I will check in my game the next time, I fight.
The symbol you want to look for is a black lightning/shovel on a yellow background.
Its in the Status line of an batalion.
