ok as just SP?

i see this has a campaign, but i feel this is aimed at the MP, so simple question really as a SP (due a lot to my connection) is this still a good game and long enough?

Campaigns of Sd2 are boring as hell in my opinion but you can still test 2 hours and refund if you don't like it.

there are many people who put hundreds of hours into army general campaigns so its certainly not boring to everybody

Army General is some of the worst stuff I seen in gaming in recent times.
A random skirmish VS AI is way more fun (as much fun as AI is in this game).
Honestly, if you're not planning playing MP don't even bother.

I play a lot of skirmish. usually 1v1 but you can also play with friends against the AI. I've only tried the campaign a couple times and find them to restrictive.

Dont know about Army General but skirmishes against the AI are fun, I exclusively play this in singleplayer. Good thing about this game is that you can customize many things. Enemy army composition, income, game mode etc. all lead to very different experiences. Not many strategy games have that nowadays.

most of the opinions you read here will be from multiplayer guys who obviously find fighting real people more interesting than AI.

but AG is very nice, and SD2 is worth it as a singeplayer game.

Due to my home situation I only play SP(i play a quarter of an hour and then my kids need something, so pausing the game is necessary) and I find it highly enjoyable, replayable and interesting enven after 1500+ hours. The army general is somewhat grinding but i feel it does its job. Only downside in my view is the limited number of maps and a map editor.

I mainly play SP, and I think it's an outstanding game. You won't be disappointed.

I really like the Army General campagin and you can play agaisnt the ai and do historical battles too which are all fun imo.

Army General campaign is a great mix of grand campaign strategy and RTS.
Combined with the great historical accuracy I would say it is verry good.

In the long run the maps get a bit repetive and you end setting up the (important) fixed emplacements the same place every time.

Bought it recently in the sale and went over my time limit to refund just looking at the hardware p()rn in the Armoury. You will need to invest time to learn it, I hate video tutorials, but in this case they are very useful, and I would recommend watching them, and maybe importing VulcanHD's Divisions, linked in his youtube vids, so you have a less random choice in skirmish games.

Having come from turn based games -John Tillers campaign series, Gary Grigsbys war in the east and Combat Mission Red Thunder, In my first few games, I thought it was unplayable, because my infantry was just running up to the Germans in their trucks, and getting shot up, but I was just giving them the wrong orders.

So yeah, great game, in all honesty not as good, but more fun than Combat Mission Red Thunder, but like that game either invest time to learn it properly or don't bother : )

AG has a lot of weaknesses, but there is nothing like it out there. So yeah give it a shot, see if it fits you.
For me it is a bit too repetitive but there are alot of cool moments to be made esp. if you role play abit. And the Ai isnt complelty garbage which is a nice to see in an RTS (it still doesnt win any prizes but still).
