Orsha Campaign Russian AI Hard difficulty
I am wondering what you guys think about the Russian AI in the Orsha campaign.

I am on the third turn, after winning most of the tactical battles, especially where I was entrenched, and now there have been what could possibly be stupid or brilliant moves by the campaign AI.

In one battle, they just sent may 60 guys against about 150 for me, but they also 2 air wings, a fighter group and a bomber group. I'm not sure if they are trying to lure out my air power or what. That was the first time I used auto resolve, and it was a stale mate.

Now they are attacking an entrenched unit of about 300 men with a unit of 14 tanks and 1 man! In the B phase they are bringing two more tank units, which totals to another 25 tanks and 163 men. I am countering with a unit that has 9 75mm anti tank guys, and a unit of 21 tank killers, that will all show up in the A phase. I think being dug in on the defensive, I should wipe our their tank assault, but we will see.

So I am wondering if its worth it to keep playing the Orsha Campaign. Is the AI up to something, am I going to be attacked really hard in the 4th turn and onward? Is the Ai just softening me up? What do you guys think?

I think that you should play the game instead of making this pointless post. Cheers.

well, you're 4 turns into a 14 turn campaign. If you want to spoil yourself a bit, load into the soviet side and take a look at their initial forces and then their reinforcements.

Good luck.

I guess what I am asking is will this get more challenging? Is it worth it to continue this campaign?

I just had an epic battle, 2 inf regiments and a fighter unit for each side! I was on the defensive entrenched, and killed something like 99 units and lost 96. It was a great fight, and to see fighter planes in the air fighting it out as the infantry fought desperately, well, it was epic. Much better fight than the previous tank battle, and so I will continue the campaign and I will see how it goes.
Campaigns are all pretty good, even if sometime is better to auto-resolve to have a fair experience. In particular, even if the AI of this game is very good and has a more or less "realistic" behaviour, it isn't good to manage breakthroughs, neither in defence or in attack.

Campaigns are arguably the best part of this game. Playing as Germany is easier. Give Russia a try if you want a real challenge. Being on defensive , dug in, and with a superior military.. yeah.

Russia you essentially are just trying to blow the Germans out of their entrenchments and throwing bodies at them with some artillery support ( familiar ?) .

With that said , even as Germany you can get wiped good by AI if you let Russia gain a good foothold. They'll just throw guys at you left and right. Orsha was one of Germanys strongest entrenched areas with elite soldiers ( mostly) on the front.

Thanks! I plan to play the Russian side next! What would you say is the most difficult campaign to play as the Germans?

Ok, I just lost a tactical battle, got crushed! I had a soviet infantry unit surrounded, one more turn and it would have surrendered, so I decided to leave it. On the Soviets turn, they tried to break it out, and to my surprise, they did! I was attacked by almost 1,000 infantry, I had only about 200, and even with about 20 marder IIs, and 9 artillery guns, I got beat. Good fight, awesome campaign. Another battle coming up, and my tank destroyers are in trouble, because they are under attack by a soviet fighter regiment, along with plenty of infantry, and I have no units with AA in the area, and my fighter units have been pretty much wiped out.

So I guess it was definitely worth continuing this campaign. It's easy when you are dug in and fresh, but as the Soviet Assault continues, it gets tough, and at least right now, they are attacking me with the right units at the right places.

Hardest German Campaign .. Orsha can be tough as you saw lol. Like I said , if Russia gets a foothold.. you pretty much are SOL. They just throw waves of men at you like IRL. Vistula Campaign is a tough one for Germany. Karelia as well. As for the Soviets , all of them can be challenging but Baranovitchi is probably the "Easiest" in terms of USSR momentum . I am replaying them all again as Russia. Orsha campaign right now to be precise. The Germans are a PIA to breakthrough their initial dug in lines. MGS just everywhere. If you play as Russia make sure you always have artillery and or some armor support ( at minimum) or the Germans will mop you up. Air is always nice too haha. It depends on what you want to play. Be in the fort holding off the barbarians or be the barbarians trying to reclaim what was yours. Germans got the technology and superior military , but Russia has the manpower and tenacity .

Yup lol. My first playthrough as Germany same thing happened. I got cocky and thought I could spread my forces out some to encircle and cut off USSR supply lines. However, they just unleashed hell on my ass and sent waves of infantry at me . Once Russia gets their armor support moving . . it becomes a quick loss if you are not set up for it. Have fun man !!!

This game has THE BEST A.I. I have ever seen. Enjoy it.

Edit: Also , being Russia your recon is much much more important. You are sending them in blind to a presumably entrenched German line. So that is a big thing to watch for. Don't lose all your recon fellas lol !

Grizz, thank you for all of the advice, it is much appreciated! So I am now on turn 6 or 7 in Orsha, just go crushed by IS 2s and IS 122s (or something like that) in an awesome tank battle. Awesome because I thought my defenses were perfect, and I ended up with officially a minor defeat, but really I got my butt kicked. They kill 190 something to my 90 kills, and my poor Stugs never had a chance. (Next time I will fight differently, need to ambush those IS 2s. I am very impressed by the AI and this game is awesome!
