How is multiplayer for someone with beginner-average skill level?
Used to play SD2 alot in the first 6 months of release. now after a 1,5 year break i want to get back into it.

However what i am worrying about is the fact that the community of the game is averaging around 500-600 players for at least a year now. and that this will lead to a horrible multiplayer experience. The biggest issue that i am afraid of is that of sweat lords that have 1000,s of hours into the game, knowing any corner of every map like their back pocket and who will literally have no problem crushing pretty average players like me in the first few minutes of a match.

Sure. learn to play. i know that. But there is only so much you can learn from getting brutally destroyed in the first few minutes of a game. and that multiple times a day until inevitably the frustration sets in. Playing against expert AI until i have the skillset to take on a pro is also not an option obviously. since experience against AI translates badly against players who play entirely differently then the AI.

Are all my fears justified? or is there still a fair chunk of beginner- average players in the community to fight interesting matches against that don't end in an one sided ROFLSTOMP like i described above?

It's rough not going to lie . However, it is doable and fun still. Just let chat know your new and USUALLY someone be chill and kind of help you. So long as you don't royally f up .. people should be cool. I only met one cuck out of like 7 games. It's inevitable ..just ignore them and have fun.

Edit : I'd highly recommend few skirmish games in hard difficulty to point where you are kicking the AI ass essentially.

There is a Discord community for new players or those who want to improve. It's very friendly and can give you tips and some games with newer players or games where someone can coach you a bit. Here is the link. Btw, yes, the multiplayer is pretty brutal.

You can also host your own games and filter people in/out. Just open the lobby as a 4v4 with observers on and close the slots as you see fit to avoid lag.

Curious what you get in 4v4 in terms of fps ? I noticed it's pretty jank at times.

before jumping 10v10 do all they suggest but i strongly recommend use the spectate feature - its there for 10v10 for a very good reason. Because if you make a big error in 10v10 pple may let u know not so diplomatically

much better than videos in my very humble opinion

For sure use the spectate, also as long as you're decent/comfortable enough to hold your own 10v10 is great because the pressure is evenly dispersed. You can usually count on your teammates to not just sit back and watch you get smacked. One thing i learned the hard way is you need to make sure you have a versatile division if you're playing with 9 randoms because you CANNOT exploit players like you can with the AI. At least someone on their team will have defenses and counters for EVERYTHING. I'm still learning too so if you ever want some practice feel free to add me

I get at least 100 f.p.s., but my computer is rather powerful and my internet connection is very good (150 Mbps down/50 Mbps up).

Also, by observers I mean spectating (clarifying for others reading this).
