Steel Division 2

Steel Division 2

Battle of Metz and the M36
One of my biggest regrets of both steel divisions is that the timeline of the game sort of left the americans without their best AT vehicle, the M36 tank destroyer.

Doing a bit of research though seems to indicate that m36 entered combat in september of 1944, just one month after august. And that it participated in the battle of metz which would have started around that time.

How strict is the timeline? And is there any chance we could see M36 in the game ever? Think eugen could stretch the timeline just maybe a little bit?

I hope they do atleast a little and I would also love to see the E8 version of the (76)mm sherman
to be honest i am not sure how much teh M36 was used in WW2, based on how much the M10 and Shermans were used.

They weren't as common as shermans or m10s. But they built over 1000 so they weren't that rare either.
Numbers i've seen previously suggest they had almost replaced the M10 by the end of the war. I'd be more conservative though and place it more around 50% by April 1945.The first models arrived to US TD battalions in October and some units saw action with them at the Bulge and later on fighting near the Ruhr. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the time they ended up on support duty for infantry as German Armor got more rare. In a 1944 and 1945 time frame though they're definitely a big absence.

In my small amount of research i did, I know they definetly served prior to bulge in the battle in metz as there are images of the battle with them there. So i guess it's really up to eugen if they are ok with extending the timeline just a tad.

I also read that they tried to use tank destroyer battalions to try and destroy fortifications, so I wouldn't bet against them that the americans tried to use their new brand TDs as bunker busters as I know they didn't always just keep them in reserve for tank pushes like they were supposed to. Considering those 90mm guns were probably some of the best they had I wouldn't hold it against them.
