Best advice: Don't stay in one place too long.
Only in larger multiplayer games does artillery get strong and that is because many players dont need lots of frontline troops so can concentrate on artillery.
Also if you keep on the move its hard for artillery to hit you now since they made the aligning time slightly longer on all artillery over the patches.
Again I think its in a good place now.
It does feel a little odd to roll your gigantic howitzers onto a raging battlefield in which the entire map was already within your range of fire doesn't it? Still though. I was fine with Artillery in SDN44. It's the range that takes all the fun out of it and makes it a spam fest. Though I feel if they dialed back the lethality just a bit verses prone infantry and amour it might not be so bad with the current "hit anywhere on the map" thing they've got going on.
Its not the range, I thought so first too, I see the Issue in the prize though, inf and artillery prizes are too close in SD2, tanks are too cheap in my eyes as well. Overall artillery performance is fine I think.
not a big deal. simply move your troops if they are spotted and attacked
so if you will remove arty, the game will turn into a camping fest
- you cant attack a defended forest unless you are using arty
- you cant attack a defended town unless you are using arty
in fact you cant attack at all, unless you are using arty!
now most people that hate arty, so far from what i seen, they are campers by nature
they pick a spot and fortify the S# out of it
and then they just sit
the other side sees the opartunity
smokes the hell out of your positions and take all your units out under the cover of smoke
you spammed infantry in a town to defend it?
i will blast it to submision
artillary is practically the most useful weapon ever invented
shame that in the game you cant really kill with it
i mean, what the point in using the 280mm soviet cannons if all it does is supress, in a same way as a 80mm mortar. Bring back artillary as it suppsoe to be!!!
yes there are spammers, but it doesnt mean everyone should be punished because of them!!!
P.S
the currenty arty nerf that made artillary usless, only forced people to buy even more artillary, so now instead of loosing its effectivness, it just cost more and demmands more macro, on the cost of units like infantry and tanks, which is S#
Now 80mm-122mm you will probably need several hits to destroy a unit but you can easily see more damaging effects on enemy units by hits and near misses by the heavier guns.
Ive had 81/82mm mortars take out IS-2, tigers, and king tigers if ppl are dumb enough to let them sit in one spot long enough under the barrage. Now it does take alot of fire from an 81/82mm mortar to get a kill....while a 120mm+ shell can get kills against tanks with only 1-2 hits...so is a big difference in damage between the artillery sizes....if you cant see that suggest you play more.
Also no---we do not need more or better performing artillery at this point. In the past it was stupid overpowered point click auto win via 120mm mortars....almost every game devolved into who won the 120mm mortar duel...that was when the game was stupid. I would say most people do not want to return to that.
Isn't this the wrong thing to do IRL ? I thought troops were trained to go prone and wait for the barrage to stop. Being upright dramatically decreased your odds of survival in a barrage. Just my perspective, I know it's a game.
In portuguese we have a say for times like that...
"taka a mãe pra ver se quica" or in english "toss your mom to see if she bounces"
It helps, sometimes...
