But right now you can play AG versus.
It might be a lot of work but i think we will see a potential rise in sales cause quite a few people have demonstrated interest in this.
Co-op is different, would require much more work adapating it, hence why we're more careful about it.
These players say everything should be free ... ;)
Well, players in EE clamored for a co-op campaign, which we delivered in ALB ... and was played by less than 2% players. Hence not the magical feature supposedly multiplying the sales some are often claiming. :)
Yes I really agree. Personally I don't like PVP'ing as much as doing COOP missions (or a campaign even more).
If you look on the long term, those 2% gave you more than that, those 2% were happy with coop and became a solid fanbase. They then bought all your games and DLC.
Everything good you do impacts the long term.
Look at CDProject, they started by having a very small community in the witcher 1 but created loyal fans with free enhanced editions, DRM free good games and good attitudes towards the fans etc.
I remember that old Wargames had free updates with new maps and features, that was a good thing that made people stay and like your studio. Those attitudes bring you success on the long term because a happy player that likes you spends more money for you.
I do believe you're following the "Paradox way" now with frequent free features + payed dlcs.
I'm okay with that, but please don't announce things you are not willing to do, that bothers fans.
When the campaign it self is barebones and the AI is brain dead yeah people aren't gonna recommend the co-op features that game has to offer, i know it's a harsh thing to say but this was what me and my friends thought of it. There wasn't much strategy to the strategic layer besides picking which unit moved to which sector and which abilities to use where.
The AI was a pushover in just about every battle, they were either too passive or suicidal insisting on driving through combat zones on roads instead of actively engaging us, it was VERY rare to see it do something smart/out of the ordinary.
And the only real times we had difficulties was when we would go up against heavier armor with relatively light units, this comes down to unit types rather than AI.
So yeah this is why the Airland Battle Co-op failed it's important to have context here, it's not because people didn't want co-op, it's because the campaign mechanics available were not fun, and no amount of co-op shenanigans can turn a boring campaign into a fun one.
And this was the reason (i believe) people asked for scripted campaigns back, at least those provided the illusion of good AI but that was more due to scripting and smart unit placement in EE (Or at least i think this is the case, if you guys were still using dynamic AI in EE's campaign i don't know how the hell it got butchered for skirmishes)
Steel Division 2 on the other hand has a far more interesting campaign mechanics and not perfect but much better AI than any wargame could offer.
Instead of sectors we have a dynamic push and pull of frontlines, more flexibility with unit movement, and if your previous news updates are anything to go by, we might see some more interesting play styles with the different battalions.
I also feel like the AI is competent enough now to stand on it's own two legs for co-op battles as in campaigns, skirmishes and scenarios they have given me a good fright here and there.
So i still stand by my previous statement having the co-op campaign could potentially see a rise in players, but it would also be an awesome addition for us the current players.
And once again i know these were fairly harsh words but this wasn't said out of spite, i looove the wargame series, and i F****** LOVE Steel Division 2, been a fan of Eugen Games since Act of War so everything said here is out of love for the devs and the games you've released.
If you guys really can't add the co-op campaign that's fine i suppose, but just be careful with future promisses and the way you word things.
I know you guys said co-op and pvp campaigns were just a possibility, but seeing the pvp campaigns being released felt like a confirmation that co-op was well within the realm of possibility if that makes sense.
The game was unfinished at launch.
