SD2 is a significantly more realistic game. I loved Normandy 44 but looking back it was a lot more on the arcadey side. I highly recommend SD2 if you were a fan of Normandy 44.

Thanks but I prefer less realism and more abstraction in my games...there is more than enough realism in real life. Even in Normandy 44 there are way too many types of units. I was hoping that SD II would be simpler and more dumbed down. I've had Normandy 44 for more than 2 years but have yet to play it more than 20 minutes or so due to the complexity. But I am not putting it down...it is a great game for gamers who like that sort of thing. It is me , and I never should have bought it. All I need a few units to be happy....maybe I should stick with rock paper scissors.
Play sci fi rts like supcom if you do not want games based on real life.

After the Finnish update it's like SD 44 in that air has become way too powerful for the game again. Welcome to stukas flying around like its 1939 again. AA just dents aircraft. Plane trains are back in vogue.

Well done Eugen for bowing down to the air whingers. Slowly losing my liking for this game.

Sd44 is more tactical and more complete game. Sd2 is just a mess: you have to constantly spam units here and there, somebody thinks its more strategic, but i dont think so. Sd2 was born disabled and crutches like smart orders and other automations cant fix it. After finland dlc, then eugene broke ui, i back to sd44 after 8-9 months of sd2 and i ensure sd44 is much better. I sure in next game eugene will fix their mistakes, they cant fix now in sd2.

Up to the last update, I still thought that SD2 was the better game. It's very different and a shock for SD44 to SD2 players but the worst aspects of SD44 are back.

Unfortunately not. In sd44, you must skillfully use all types of units to win from intelligence to artillery. In SD2, even at the highest levels, you can win just by spamming infantry and tanks with a little air support.

The only change to Air is that planes break off their attacks sooner due to morale loss, making them less likely to suicide themselves by flying straight into flak.

There is currently an unspecified bug with plane combat that Eugen is currently working on a fix for.

Wise is more about SD44. SD2 allows you cheerfully farting spam units for 30 minutes until the deckends. In sd44, you need to carefully plan each attack, since the rash loss of even one group of units can lead to defeat. SD2 is more arcade, SD44 is wise, slow, hard, tactic game.

Although you're certainly entitled to your opinion, I *strongly* disagree. SD2 requires thoughtful use of tactics and strategy; anyone who tries to "spam tanks and infantry" will get annihilated by an opponent who uses concealed AT guns and tank destroyers, aircraft and artillery.

SD2 took the SD: Normandy formula and improved on it in practically every way. Vehicles' statistics are based on real-world armor values and weapon parameters, rather than the more abstract "Armor 1 -> 22" values of the first game.

Aircraft's flight performance changes when they drop their ordinance, meaning fighter-bombers and ground-attack aircraft are slow and lumbering when carrying their payloads but can switch to fighter roles after their loads have been dropped.

Artillery mechanics have been further enhanced with the addition of artillery observers and radio communications, which didn't exist in the first game.

"Military Police" units, which also didn't exist in the first game, add additional depth to infantry tactics by bolstering the morale of nearby Disheartened units.

The LOS tool has been updated to reflect elevation changes in terrain, allowing players to better plan strategy around elevation in advance.

Smart Orders and Rules of Engagement (although they need a bit of tweaking at the moment) relieves the micro-load on the player, which is one of the biggest complaints from the playerbase from the first game.

All in all, Eugen took lessons learned from their own experience and from player feedback and applied it to SD 2, making it (in my eyes) a better game than SD 1.

Thanks. Do you have both games?
