Im very confused
first off let me say i've never played steel divission, however the description for sd:2 has me interested but still unsure if i should get the game.

The reason im unsure is because i dont really know how the game play flows, steam is showing me videos and pictures of tanks and vehincles and such in combat however i looked up someones first look at SD:2 and it looks nothing alike. from what i was able to see in the FI, your just looking down at a battle map, no actual combat. i woud say it seems like it would play like a RTS civ game. could people clarify how the game actually playes cause if it's just hours and hours of starting at a map i dont think the game will be for me.

You can watch various gameplay videos like those from Vulcan to give you an idea on how the game actually plays out.

And no, you don't stare on the map for hours without any actual combat.

The new thing about SD2 is a turn based strategy mode called army general where you indeed spend most of the time on a strategic map, so my guess is you saw a video of that. The other thing are the so called tactical battles in skirmish, multiplayer and even in army general (if you wan't to take up personal responsibility for your strategic actions). Here it is entirely up to you how much you want to zoom in / out. You can also watch your replays.
Long story short, most of the game looks like this:

Edit: whoops, ninjad:)

Sounds like, in whatever video you were watching, the player was playing the Single-Player Campaign mode. In that mode, you move your battalions in the strategic overmap in, and then fight-it-out in Real-Time-Tactical battles once your forces meet the enemy's.

There's no real connection to a "Civ game"; there's no diplomacy, no research of new technologies, no construction of buildings, and no harvesting of resources.
