Max range is 2000m and most tank engagments happened at about 1200m. All AT guns lose a lot of penetration and accuracy at max range. The pak40 is good, but it isn't a pak43 or flak 88. Just like all the other medium AT guns it will struggle to pen even medium tanks that far out. Meanwhile tanks don't even need a direct hit to deal damage back.
That's why you need to use efficient shot to have them wait until they are in range. If you want to duke it out on max range, either bring something with a bigger gun or more armor.
a T34 is a sure kill at 1KM. Front armor.
a KV is a sure kill at 500M. Front armor.
This is the data produced by the soviet and the reich at the time. And on the western front to the exception of a few british model the pak 40 was just like a knife threw butter.
Here ... we are so far from that.... It feels like it's a tank game mostly.
Gives the Russian superiority in numbers and restore the authenticity of the german technologie.
And the rapidity and precision of the AI arty is .... impressive to say the least.
the t34-85 turret front armos was 60mm SLOPED, which means it was on average 80-90mm effective armor. the panzer4, had at its prime, the 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/48 cannon, with max penetration value of 86mm at 1000meters, while the t34-85 was designed to destroy tigers and panthers from 1500 meters, so, yeah, go away
And faith, i'm not comparing panzher and T34. but T34 and pak 40. Go check it out.
but its was mostly effective against t34s, not so much against kv1s, dont forget that we are talking about a medium tank vs at gun here, and a heavy tank vs at gun which is a whole other story
What an intelligent response...
I'm correct though. German steel quality at this point was really bad. It's noted numerous times in US and Soviet field reports about how poor it was.
The "superior Krupp stahl" thing is complete bollocks.
He is correct. By 1944 bombing had caused huge shortfalls in metal production, which led to a marked decrease in German armour effectiveness.
