Tank riders would be awesome....

Because it gets messy when they get hit with solid shot.

Soviets never did care for their troops.
It'd be awesome. End of story :)

Plus, they should make it so only infantry can capture flags.
This way, people would make more than just tanks :)

Nonsense. read memoirs of soldiers who fought alongside tank riders.

Tankodesantniki already exist in several Soviet divisions in-game. And, as explained by Eugen already, Soviet infantry only generally rode on tanks when there was a shortage of actual transports, *and* they almost never rode on tanks during active combat operations (for the reasons Hidden Gunman described).

I know they weren't literal tank riders and instead acted as Russian panzer grenadiers, but it'd still be cool to see that.. I mean, even if the tank's destruction ends with a crew and 12 soldiers maimed

come on this game is already so biased towards infantry play
you literally can't play a game without infantry

Read stories of the retreat of German 9th Army. Wounded and ill troops were dumped off tanks to make way for the stronger...a lot of them ended up under the tracks or wheels of following vehicles.

It would make sense to allow soldiers to ride on tanks just like they can ride in supply vehicles.
We have soft skin trucks in game so the point that they didnt ride tanks into combat seems a bit mute.
As we have huge maps and 2km engagement range it would be sensible to let them ride along up until a predicted engagement.
It would also make it easier with microing - making sure the infantry is where they are needed.

I don't remember, where I saw it(maybe on Reddit, maybe here), but I do recall Madmat saying something like "wanted to get them in-game, but ran into problems with animation". Besides, Eugen tried "tanks as infantry transports" concept in Israel DLC for Wargame, and it wasn't very balanced.
Still, would be interesting to see tanks as Phase A only transports for Tankodesantniki(as some sort of forward manoeuver group). Lend-lease halftracks looks kinda strange as inf transports(to my knowledge they were used for arty, command, or special units like arty recon, not for infantry)

bit of an OP diversion but tank wrecks as cover, maybe smoke from them obscuring bits of battlefield could be neat

The difference there is the germans did such things in desperate retreats or as a result of a deranged hitlers orders, the Soviets were careless toward thousands of soldiers even when on a winning assault, especially ones they forced into penal units.

That's a classic Wehraboo argument.
