Best way to learn?
Hello. I just bought the game a few days ago, watched some tutorial videos covering the basics and other stuff.
Having played more than 2000 hours in CoH/CoH2, I'm familiar with most of the infantry, tanks and artillery. But the last time I played a CoH2 was like 4-5 years ago, I haven't even played another RTS game in this time, so I'm as fast as a turtle for now.
I just want to know what people think is the best way to learn the game, and keep up to the speed. I noticed that most of the time I have points floating. I feel the game is so fast that I can't spend the points in time lol. I assume this is because I don't really know all the units, gear equipped and stuff so I lose time reading descriptions.

Note: I have all DLC's and prefer to play as axis.

initially learn by taking on the AI get used to pushing to the objectives and winning on easier AI modes. Then progress to beating the AI on medium get used to your units/ spending points what units you need to beat what.

Then to me least stressful is just hop in 10v10s you lose who cares its a 10v10. Also the 10v10 have lower points totals and slow tic of points adding to your pool.

Then depending on what you want from the game is 1v1 ranked an such but would practice some before you hop in as apparently you can quickly play ppl at the top even if your just starting.

Is also the army general campaign where you only have the historical forces in each battle is neat and a different format of play to practice fighting with a very limited amount of assets to win in some cases.

Play on smaller maps with 4v4 skirmish, and lower the 'starting points' as well as 'income rate'. This way, you will manage a smaller portion of the map, with less overall points to spend. You can start to get a grasp of play this way, to the point that you'll feel the opposite, in that you don't have enough points to spend.

At that point, you can play larger games, with more starting points and income until you feel comfortable at normal amounts of deployment points. Feel free to hit 'P' to pause in skirmish and get a bearing on the battlefield: Where is your attention needed, what equipment is needed, where/what objectives should you prioritize, what objectives have more optimal approach paths than others, pause will give you time to ask these very important questions.

Also COH/COH2 will have done an alright job at teaching you the name/look/basic operation of some units, so that will be helpful, however it's not enough to know you have a Panzer IV. You need to know that a Panzer IV has a low velocity 75mm cannon, the KwK 40 L48. You need to know that the Panzer IV H has 75mm of front armor as opposed to the Panzer IV G with 65mm.

Another huge example is the difference between the Panther High Velocity 75mm and the Tiger 88mm. If you didn't know that the Panther had a high velocity gun, you're likely to assume the Tiger has more penetration, which would be false at and under 2km regarding the Panther APCR, which is the range at which all armored engagements max at in game.

There is a lot of nuance to military equipment that makes some better or worse than others for a multitude of contexts. A good commander will know his units and use them at their strongest. A great commander will know his units, and his opponents, and will deploy his units accordingly. Hope this helps.

After playing this since the beta, and SDN44 since its' launch, I'll tell you not to listen to anyone telling you that the AI is any kind of substitute for playing against human players. Your first 5 or 6 skirmishes max should be against the AI. After that, get online, and play with people. AI will NOT teach you to play against humans, and is generally a poor teacher at any level, as it is presently porked. Very important, get on the Discord servers for the game. Even the top players are good guys and very willing to help you get started learning the game.

If you want to play in any tutorial games, let me know. If I'm on Steam, I am always willing to go 1 vs 1 to help a new player learn the game in a slower paced low income rate game where whatever tactical concepts needing to be practiced can be done in a non-blowout type fight. And I don't mind being the Soviets or Axis depending on what force you want to fight with.

This was always the hardest part for me trying to get into Wargame series - memorizing stats and learning the broad spectrum of relative strengths of different weapons. Still don’t know any good way to approach it. I have 50ish hours in Red Dragon an i feel like i barely scratched the surface. That part makes MP particularly hard if you don’t want to just spam stuff in 10v10 games.

Jagd, add me on steam and I'm happy to play some 2v2 vs. AI matches to help you learn.

Thank you guys, I'm still playing against the AI but I can win almost all games easily. I'll try to jump into some multiplayer skirmishes.
