Tank facing position really frustrating
I hope this game have a setting to let tank lock on the armor heading if they are defending position....
tank always face another way and get destroy cause facing target lost in sight {SAD}

I've noticed the same issue, my tanks almost always face the *side* of their hull towards the bulk of the enemy armored units! This is the worst possible way to position one's tank even to this day, since the tank's armor is the thinnest on the sides. When defending a point in Skirmish, I wish our tanks would hold a defensive line properly and actively try to show only the front of their own tank towards the enemy tanks and AT units. :)
So, I think the player-controlled tank units' AI should be a little more vigilant in trying to position the front of their hulls towards the majority of enemy threats in any given situation. That's impossible in a perfect encirclement, so in that special case they should scan the area around them and determine which direction the most potent threats to their own armor are coming from and face the front of their tank in that direction, e.g... if the player's tank is encircled by enemies they should position the front of their hull towards whichever enemy units have the most powerful cannons or rockets in the highest quantity.

What do ya do when your 3 tanks are aiming behind themselves at a lone recon vehicle that is over a ridged with dense woods inbetween you two then ya need to move them forward to shoot at a tank sitting around the corner of the woods and when ya left or right click on the tank they move towards it but keep aiming behind them - RMB lcicking towards the tanks does not help nor does hunt so when ya see the tank they YOUR tanks have to slowly swing their turrets around.

Combat Mission has a thing wherein you can click and drag the mouse and the tank faces that way an kills anything it sees that comes into that sector shows a green highlight also you can choose to have it do armor only or anything that moves.

Right Mouse and drag works great as long as there are no enemies within 300 miles

Disable HE ammo and MG, this will help with this problem.

yeah we should have option to keep tank facing a direction

i don't mind when my tanks turn the wrong way when they are panicked, it probably should be like that. But my tanks so often turn to face something that not even in their line of sight and negates the advantage the position i put him in would have given. Sometimes what they turn towards isn't in any of my units line of sight at all and I now know enemy units are that way even though I shouldn't. It needs work. But I want the unit to fight and turn on it's own. I just want to give it a general direction it will try to keep facing but will rotate to defend itself from threats IT CAN SEE, maybe depending on veteran levels.

I had tanks on a hill near me disabling this didn't help maybe it would for infantry I wanted to move forward 30 feet and engage this tank on a hill over there it worked out I hit with mortars then weakend it halfway then put the two tanks on hunt then they took it out AFTER finally swinging their barrels - turrets around after taking some bounce shots.

The problem is that this was a requested feature in Steel Division. The devs didn't bother to include it in the second game. Why?

Disabling weapons is not a solution because the tank should not be stupid. There is no reason to turn side armor when:

1. They have turrets
2. Enemies are out of range (beyond 2000m) and they turn anyway
3. Enemies out of line of sight make your tanks turn even if they cant be hit from that angle

I'm curious about this issue. I watch replays of most my battles and I rarely notice my tanks being side shot because they were facing a lesser threat or a unit not in LOS.

When it does happen it's almost always in MP games when my opponent sets up a good flank attack or ambush. I give them credit for good tactics not blame the game.

Also, there are so many people saying they are losing tanks bc they faced the wrong direction, where are all the people who are killing so many tanks bc they were faced the wrong way? Cant have one without the other.

It's quite exploitable too. You send your heaviest armoured unit out on a wide flank to draw the enemy tanks' attention and thus their facing, leaving their exposed sides/rear vulnerable to your AT.

It makes taking out heavy armour trivial if you have enough room to send something out wide.

I kinda feel like this is an intended feature. They added return fire for scouts so you didn't have to turn their weapons off. How hard would it have been to make a force front armor facing?

Flanking. That's good tactics, real world tactics. Adding a function to face tanks in a specific direction wouldn't help.

They are talking about tanks that turn to face infantry or halftracks when there are AT threats coming from another direction. It simply doesn't happen very often.

Most likely players will lose more tanks with the facing option than without it. Imagine a PantherG facing north is targeted from the east but it just sits there bc its owner is microing elsewhere on the map and hasn't noticed his Panther is under attack.

When he finally realizes what's happen he scrolls to the spot and takes off the facing option to engage the threat but it's too late, Panther is track destroyed and a few seconds later its armor cracked, dead Panther.

Then that player comes to the forum to complain that tanks with forced facing option enabled should automatically turn to face threats LOL.
