How does Meditation work and what's up with the egg?

I notice when I get to the last campfire of a run, one of the options is "Meditate" with a picture of an egg displayed in the menu box. When I choose it, I immediately move to the final boss, then after the boss is killed, I enter a second battle against the egg from the picture. It has multiple health bars and at some point the fight just stops abruptly before I can kill it. There are no rewards or anything, so I'm not sure what the point of the egg is.

My guess is that it has a finite number of health bars and a hidden timer somewhere, and I'm supposed to deplete all of its health bars before that timer is up. And maybe I'm supposed to keep trying this in Quest mode until my passive skills are upgraded enough that I can totally destroy this thing, but I could be off the mark. It's pretty puzzling.

So what's up with this egg and what do I get for defeating it?

I killed the egg like 4 time (it went gold) before the game ended abruptly

Yep, same here. I keep getting it to either a yellow or gold color, get it to about 1/4 of its health bar, and then the battle ends.

You can actually kill the egg, there is a timer at the bottom left that gets added 40 seconds after each phase. The final phase has around 200k health to kill and based on your performance you get more experience to use on quest mode.

Killing it also unlocks an achievement and a special ending sequence

Yep, only way i've found of nailing that egg so far effectivly is using golden nests with chicken nests to create a sort of mega spam which marches it self towards the egg, just raw bodies to throw at it really, spells just don't seem to quite cut it regardless of what you try and do.

I beat the egg with the play next 2/3 attacks and the lightning spells that deal x damage for every previous played card and the sword that increases int by amount of damage it does

Spells/Buildings can pop it easily. Buildings you just need the card that ups damage and mortars, with the relic that prevents exhaust. Spells just get Flaming Seed or whatever it's called, the 4 star that makes copies of itself with phantom. Upgrade it somewhere in the run, throw in Ultimatum and or Int ups, remove everything else from your deck as best you can, and giggle as you slaughter everything with near infinite spells. Especially with relics that up Int as you go

From past experience I found using chicks is a very poor way as it makes teh framerate horrible and they are slow but the timer is still going.

Found a few different ways of killing it effectively, you can make a combo using any of the bottom cards.

-Using Sword dance
-Storm
-Seed of fire
-Ultimatum
-Continuous Shelling

Knife of Determination (double INT 1 dmg attack) works too in very streamlined deck, if you can get to 10k INT even basic Strikes+ pops eggs easily
