There are no difficulty settings because you are free to go wherever you want since the very beginning. There are a Permadeath and a Hardcore Mode too to unlock. Not rushing is the key
How much time since your last run?
And of course, casual player can enjoy this game. i consider myself as casual player, and people who play with me online can clearly notice this - I don't like to go on war in strategy games or fight other players. But I like this game for its interesting blend of action combat with vast isometric world full of lore and exploration.
Don't feel wrong, everyone plays differently. I have seen some players mentioned that they could barely defeat goblins, and these little fellows are really easy to beat. Though you will encounter some really nasty enemies, like Saurians, in Alaloth. There's not too much to memorize in combat: big ogres hit the ground hard so you need to be a bit far when they do this. Some bosses can become invulnerable for a short period of time, so you have to deal with other enemies around; I feel that mechanics like these are kind of natural to understand or easy to predict in RPG. Though I can tell that some bosses will definitely make you sweat.
And if you feel that the game is too difficult you can always try to find companions, there are 4 companions for each alignment in the game.
There's no difficulty setting, but two different modes - one-hero mode, where you are the only champ in the game, and competitive mode where you have to compete with other AI controlled champions to become the only one worthy hero. As for the difficulty: you may encounter really easy 4 skull dungeons here, while the previous 3 skull dungeon could be a real nightmare for you. "Yes I'm talking about you, Queen's Rest!!!" XD
And as Eldacar already mentioned, there are Permadeath and a Hardcore modes which you can unlock if you consider the game too easy for yourself.
I bought the game because I really like the premise and a big fan of isometric games.
But the very first three thugs in the very first dungeon fckd me sooo hard... Gosh, I really want to like the game, but this was brutal. 😀
No. Too much for me. Asked for a refund. Maybe I'll return one day, when there is an "easy" difficulty.
Anyway, good luck with the game. It looks like a great game with a nice potential, but it seems it is simply not for me.
Wut? Where?
What's worse than just a hard fight is that you fly into a spiral of death. You lose the fight, you lose potions, your armor and weapons break. You go into a new fight worse prepared than for the first one you lost. And most likely, you will lose it too, and the situation will be even worse - no money, no potions, no food, armor broken.
I start to feel the excitement, and I start to play better, but I run out of resources to forgive my mistakes.
In Souls, for example, you had rechargeable potions. After your death you started every battle with the same status give or take. And here, every time, you're in a worse situation than you were in the last battle.
Got it. Ravens Hideout. Let's say this, you are supposed to be prepared before Venturino forte. The loop was way worst at the beginning, we iterated it a lot. In theory, you can even finish the game with your starting equipment but I understand a few super hardcore players are not a benchmark for everyone. But if you do some easy quest, bounties and such, you can provide good equip for sure. Also, with Skylight, we are putting in loots all around with a sort of Quick Action button to use potions and consumables we've put around to make envs more interesting and help with first steps

You mentioned preparation and doing easy quests before traveling there. But isn't this Hideout the very first quest? I mean, the girl looking for her husband who sends you to this dungeon is literally the first quest-giver you encounter when leaving the palace. Also, two quests from the information board sent me directly to this cave. Am I missing something?
No rushes. Do bounties. Do quests. Equip properly. Given that, we are putting in new loots around with Skylight, to make things a bit easier at the beginning
