Go into your Program Files on your OS and then choose the folders Steam>steamapps>common>commanderkeen>base1. From here look for a file called keen1.conf. Click on it and open the file with a text editor. I recommend notepad. If your nervous about messing something up save a copy of the original. Scroll down the list and make sure that each of these values appear this way.

I'm hoping that one of these is set wrong. If you change them then you should be able to hear sound. Once changed, save the text file (don't worry about save as). Check to see if it worked. If it did, you will need to change the conf files for each of the keen games in order to get sound for them. Base1 is for the first game, so do the exact same thing in base2, 3, 4, and 5 as you did for base1.
Good Luck! And please let me know if it worked.
Is it just the music or does the game also seem to have lag?

I'm not sure what computer you are running, but there are a couple of ways to make the game run more smoothly. If I remember right Steam automatically sets the output=surface, change it to overlay, ddraw, or opengl. If that doesn't work, then while in game increase the frameskip (Ctrl-F12). Mine is auto set to 3000. If you find a number that runs the game well at, then set cycles=fixed ####. One last thing you could try is to change the memsize from 16 to memsize=64.
The idea is to get dosbox to allow dosbox to use more computer power. If you have an old computer, than doing this will choke the computer. If you have a modern system it shouldn't be a problem and you probably will only need to change one thing. I assume that this will clear up the music problem. Let me know if that helps or if you have any other questions.
