That "definitive edition" is not an original product, but a remake. Also this definitive edition is available for sale on PC, but not on Steam. I have bought it.

IIUC "kicked off" is DOSBox, and "someone else" is Unity. By the way, there is collector's (physical) edition available, or will be. I ordered mine as part of Boomstarter campaign, but it is finished now
