What is co-op like?

Just to check before buying, is it online co-op only, or is there local splitscreen? Also, is the entire game co-op, or is it limited in some way?

Hi! Co-op is online only, with the brief tutorial being the only solo-only content. There are no plans currently for local splitscreen co-op

So having started with co-op with a couple friends. I can tell you progress is shared. Though going to find what happens when I, now a higher level than friends, join a game where the host may be lower level. Not sure what happens then.
