How to get rid of the movement stuttering?
When I move the camera it is perfectly smooth but when I strafe for example, it is super stuttery, how to fix?

Play a different game that's actually well made

haha, that's what I ended up doing anyways. It's a shame because I played the release back in the days and it didn't have this stuttering problem. I guess that it is the 64 Hz source engine physics problems, but I don't care, I'm not paid for beta testing.

Maybe try turning on raw mouse input? (If that's even in this, I haven't looked) Something similar to what you're describing happens in half life opposing force if it's not turned on

nope, didnt help. also its not the mouse movement that is at fault, but the player movement when strafing for example, the mouse is perfectly smooth. Problem is player physics. Uninstalled again.

I seem to recall source having an intense hatred for G-Sync monitors, you wouldn't have one of those by any chance?
Deus_nsf Sep 10, 2021 @ 8:47am
yes, but it did it on non Gsync too

no problems with Half Life 2, or Black Mesa, or plenty of other Source games, it's just EYE, and it's an update that brought this, it wasn't always like this

The game wasn't updated in at least 7 years, and you probably had a different machine in that time. I've heard of this problem before and we narrowed it down to "maybe it was G-Sync maybe it was something else".

yep it was an update a whiiiile ago, but remembered it, at the time I thought my hardware was at fault, and by that time, I decided to try to replay it. the first versions of eye were so much better, with research abuse and the much higher ammo capacity, the last patches ruined it imo

EDIT: This method breaks stuff! Use Create Server instead of Play Campaign. This is the only real solution.

---

From what I can tell, the stutter is caused by keyboard inputs polling at a fixed rate.

Use launch option
-tickrate 165
to smooth things out.

I use 165 because I target 160 fps. Use whatever is appropriate for your target framerate. You'll want some wiggle room as the input rate will fall out of sync with drawn frames anyway. So set 125 if you target 120, etc.

I found this solution while fixing the same issue in Insurgency. It appears to work with no issues. I have no idea if it breaks anything.

oh waw, I'll definitely try this.

I set my tickrate to 146. I play all of my games at 141 FPS because I have a GSYNC monitor. Unfortunately, the stuttering still persists. I've also disabled GSYNC entirely and used the game's vsync option to no avail. I really would like to play this game, I just can not handle micro-stuttering in my games.

Same :( And the worst thing about it is that it hasn't always been like that, earlier versions of the game didn't have this problem at all, I remember it being introduced with a patch, I think it was the one with the real ending or the one just prior.

But there's not only that, the game was just plain better in a gameplay and game design perspective as well, after one of the patches light and medium builds got nerfed way too much and now if you want to carry good weapons and a lot of ammo you're forced to play the slow paced heavy build. The difficulty rebalance was also super weird and made the game too easy and too hard at the same time and generally just more frustrating and grindy to play :(

See all those recent reviews on the internet and youtube criticizing the game for being way too grindy? Well, it hasn't always been like that, at least not to this point.

I had the chance to experience this game when it was still good and I'm glad I did, I'm sorry for the people who will never get that chance.

Even with all the bugs and the absence of the true ending, EYE 1.0 was the best version of the game.
