Even the best intentions can end up worse than doing nothing.
That is the harsh truth and the game does a good job at presenting that.
I mean, if that's the game's intention, then it might grow on me I suppose
As for the good ??? uhh I think it resets to 100 at some points, there's no way to get more karma that I know of
As for what it affects, it's only the chance of a medkit overdose and fatal wounds. Not really a whole lot, hence why most people just ignore it. Another layer of mechanics thrown in just for the hell of it, and why exactly is it trash again?
Like the others said, it doesn't effect a whole lot. I wouldn't pick fights at the monastery of course, as that can screw yourself over quickly.
It is ultimately a pointless game mechanic that could have been more fleshed out, but the rest of the game is fine if you don't mind a little bit of quirk to it.
It's been a while, but I can help you out if you're just beginning.
The Karma system isn't as simple as "don't hurt friendly NPCs" lol, don't blindly support a dumb mechanic. I'm all for cause and effect of actions, but a vague moralistic karma system doesn't make much sense. I'm fine with it but it does inconvenience me quite a bit with the medkits and such. And yeah, going under 0 karma resets it to 100, which is also plain dumb.
No reason to pay attention to your karma, like I said
Killing Rimanah, Dutch and his friends, Mysterious: -1 karma each
Killing a Master rank enemy: +3 or +5 karma
Throwing a grenade into a room full of rats: -2 karma each
Some of Mentor's dialogue choices in New Eden are -1 karma but otherwise being a colossal ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to everyone has no effect
For some reason using Invocation a lot also tanks your karma
I don't think I'll ever understand it without looking at the code, but I don't need to understand.
I'm not here to drink your dog piss.
