Spoilers. Mentor path?
Edit. Hijacking my own thread here.

Anyone knows if the Carnophage in Final mission only triggers if you speak with the Synicles on Monolith? Or if there are other ways?

So I just finished the game with the commander ending, or whatever you can call it.
I tried to do the mentor thing before but it sent me to some sewer map where you couldn't progress. All I found at the end was a looter with some burning man monument.
Anyone know if things only got bugged? Or was there a path that I missed?

I've been having a lot of bugs in the game. Upon exiting or running out of ressurectors the checkpoints get screwy.

The first time after New Eden I quit after talking to the commander, and ended up back in New Eden to talk to the barman.
Upon visiting the infamous Factory Dutch died and game just progressed, after setting off the bomb I was teleported to the ruin base on Mars in front of the drone.
After doing investigating the first 2 points i managed to run out of ressurectors and had to do the portal walk. Then I was back at saving Dutch again in the Factory. I put some more effort into saving him this time and started at a new place on Mars after setting off the bomb, now Dutch was there but I think a chopper killed him since the npcs still acted like he was dead.
I played more carefully through mars to avoid dying or restarting and made it to the end.

That's when I choose the mentor path and was transported to the weird sewage map.
Now, I figured something went screwy again and quit and resumed my game, then I was back at mars in front of the portal. So I just went ahead and killed him, got transported back to base and sent to a Jian temple. Only that the temple was completely empty, the mission was "extraction point" so I walked there and the commander declared his betrayal.

Followed by returning to base, speaking to a werewolf and doing the normal end game stuff.

Problem is that even after progressing to New Eden or further the game always starts at the portal with the three characters when I load my game now. And upon entering that portal i get to either the cave again or when you meet Dutch the first time and get introduced to the Armory.
I don't feel like playing through the game to the path choice again if this will keep on happening, especially if that path is bugged somehow.

TLDR: Where are you supposed to go when you chose the mentor on mars?

Is it worth doing or will the game just keep screwing up the checkpoints?

The mentor path has you search for the ancient one on a special map, an abandoned colony inhabited now by looters

Okay, but is there some walkthrough or anything for that map? Because I couldn't find a way to progress it.

Wait, so have you managed to even get there? Because the werewolf thing is rimanah's path, and you mentioned being stuck in your cycles of guilt the first level after finishing it. Anyway, if you actually do get there, and you'll know if you did, ya boy the mentor gives you your objectives and has you search for an old guy named akmal. Don't attack the looters there, you need some of their dialogue to know what to do exactly, because akmal's lair is hidden. But just follow your instinct, and what they say gives hints as well.

Since the game's save is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up I finished Rimanah's path instead. That's why I'm wondering since I need to play up to that point again.

When I did choose to follow the mentor I started in an area but there was no dialogue, no objective to follow or anything like it.
I followed the only path I could find but it didn't lead to anything but a looter npc. There was a valve I could activate but I didn't really get if it lead to anything and the NPC didn't have nay more dialogue for me.

...yeah, the valve, I think that's the looter map, the cave with the wrecked buildings, waste pools and that one railway thing? You should've seen mentor though. Yeah, try getting to that point again, and maybe look around for a solution with this savefile problem on the forum, someone had one a while ago iirc

So I managed to complete the mentor playthrough.
I still started in a staircase next to an armory in that map. Still no dialogue, just the objective "Find Akmal" I go out, take a right path and then turn out at a crossroad, one of the paths says "Joe the plumber" and the other one leads to lots of staircases to the top of the map.
Going there there was the NPC again, this time I tried to different conversation options and he revealed that you should turn the valve and shoot the switch. They were then both marked on my map and so I did.
But after that, nothing. No new objective, the npc didn't say anything else. According to the npc, shooting the switch was supposed to make the place blow up and Akmal was supposed to show up to fill the water tanks or something. But none of that really happened.

Instead I happened upon one of those generic doors that I apprently could open and there was a ductvent insie that took me to Akmal...

It's confusing, but the explosion you cause forces the tanks to enter an emergency maintenance mode and drain themselves. Because somebody came by to rig the tanks to do that, because they kept backing up.

Looters are not very good at the talking.

If you go through that door earlier the vent will be full of solid green slime and you can't get into it.

it triggers if you kill the jian scum on mars, no other requirement
prpl_mage Apr 4, 2018 @ 3:08pm
In that case I wonder why I haven't encountered it the last few times.
abcd Apr 4, 2018 @ 5:50pm
wait, the carnophage on mars or the one in the temple?

obeying the king automatically puts you on the wolf path, leading to a wolf delivering your temple mission briefing.

the one on mars spawns either: A. randomly, or every third playthrough B. if you talk to enough hidden streum throughout the game. Synicles and the Manduco on New Eden is usually enough. or c. on the next playthrough after getting a certain ending. I don't remember if anyone ever figured that out for sure.

Wait, what? I see the one on mars every single time...
prpl_mage Apr 4, 2018 @ 10:27pm
Yeah I'm talking about the temple hq.
Like Saracanth I can usually find the one in the tomb quite easily. I'll have to actively avoid talking to some metastreums to comfirm that.

I'm trying to make things clear for my guide. It feels a bit incomplete when I don't know for sure. And if things have more conditions than I know then people are bound to run into problems and ask.

He's failed to spawn for me before. I remember some other people mentioning it too.

Afaik, as long as you side with the King on mars the wolf shows up in the temple. Sometimes if you talk to the King after aborting certain conversations you can get sent to see Akhmal and the council, or the Federation council, but once you get to the temple the wolf is there anyway.
