It's a YOU problem. Game runs/starts just fine here. Maybe you have something installed that messes with the new update.

I don't remember 100%, but I believe there is a story / campaign that explains stuff to you? Otherwise, 90% of the game is self explained.
Like you need worker? Then upgrade your houses. You only unlock new stuff with the current highest population you have. So you should know how to get more worker in the first place. You build up your population and the houses generate workforce (depending on the level of the house) and with this workforce you sustain your production with workforce / money.
