Supplychain - dual use of Farms
Hello,
I just got Anno 1800 and trying to figure some things out. I googled the question, but couldn't find anything on Wiki.
Pigfarms produce meat for sousages and tallo for soap. Do these pigfarms need to be dedicated to each product individually or does one farm produce the material for both production lines.
So if I want to produce meat for butcher, I build pigfarm for that one. If I want to produce soap - do I now need to build another pigfarm or will the one I allready built for the meat supply the talo for the soapfactory?
Does this principal apply also for other dual use productions?

Thanks.

Slight misconception on your part here.

Pig farms only produce pigs.
The Slaughterhouse consumes pigs, and produces sausages.
The Rendering Works consumes pigs, and produces tallow.

Theoretically speaking, both production lines can use the same pigs produced by a single pig farm, since, well... pigs are pigs.

Practically speaking, however, a single slaughterhouse at 100% production efficiency will use all the pigs a farm at 100% production efficiency will produce.
Likewise, two rendering works at 100% production efficiency will *also* use all the pigs a farm at 100% production efficiency will produce.
So, even though it theoretically doesn't matter how you build your pig farms, you still need to build enough of them to meet demand.

Building the pig farms close to your slaughterhouses and rendering works has the added benefit that the farms, slaughterhouses and rendering works will exchange pigs, directly, via cart. If you built the farms away from them, then the farms would have to deliver pigs to warehouses, and slaughterhouses and rendering works would have to take pigs from warehouses. This would put additional burden on the warehouses, since they would have to handle more carts than if they just received the sausages and tallow.

Thanks. I have all the Pig related productions all in one place, incl. a grainfarm for the silos. I just had the idea, that one farm produces meat that will go to the butcher and the stuff for the soap (which the butcher doesn't use or need) goes to the rendering works.
Same with cattle. Meat for the butcher and the hide to the boot-maker. = one farm. Why would a farm just concentrate on meat and throw the other stuff away? Doesn't seem rational or economical.Would be a nice add on or a mod.

They probably just simplified it for gameplay/playability reasons.
If you're running your pig farms with silos, then they're running at 266% productivity, so one pig farm could easily supply, for example, 1 slaughterhouse and 3 rendering works, or 2 slaughterhouses and 1 rendering works with some extra pigs left over.
