Solution: Anno 1800 needs to be started as ADMIN, this can easily be done by opening the properties of steamapps\common\Anno 1800\Bin\Win64\Anno1800.exe. Just mark the checkbox: "run as admin". It's within the compatability section of settings.
Important!
You also need to run steam.exe AND ubisoft connect as admin in order to make this work.
Hope this helps you to sync the key and start playing the game :)

Almost every day same dumb problem with the key for Ubisoft game on Steam.
Ubisoft games don't give any more keys if you buy directly from Ubisoft or Steam.
That issue is what you get for buying game on Steam, Ubisoft users never have this issue.
I looked on Ubisoft forums and it doesn't give information on the Key that must be entered. However they are aware of an issue with launching, and those who have played it previously thus providing the Key prior to the issue happening now. If you just purchased it in the last few days then there is no solution as of yet to get the game running because you will be stuck at the enter Key screen without being able to move forward. When there will be a fix to this I don't know, but if you just purchased the game in the last few days you are out of luck until a fix can be issued, and who knows when that will be.
As of right now the only way you can play is if you previously played prior to the new update. The work around is launching steam app in administration mode, launching ubisoft connect app in admin mode and then moving it offline. Then go to the steam folder Bin/Win64 and right click the Anno 1800.exe file and running it in admin mode. From there you will be able to play, but those who have yet to insert the key will be stuck until further notice.
