To enhance the performance of the game, as it were crashing all the time, I recently switched AMD FidelityFX to 150% which improved the graphics performance of the game for a short period of time. But now, the game freezes once I load my savegame.
I solved the problems I had with loading my savegame, doing the following:
I looked into the directory %userprofile%\Documents\Anno 1800, which the pinned post of this forum suggested. In there, I found some log files which were recording debug messages of the game while running. In one of the very last lines, it occured that the game was not able to find or load a precompiled shader.
I deleted the directory where precompiled shaders were stored and started a file verification in the Ubisoft Connect launcher to check the integrity of the game.
Then I started the benchmark DX11 again, which also triggered another installation of DirectX runtimes. They were running smoothly and produced results with a satisfying rate between 50-120 fps on my AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT.
After running the DX12 benchmark too, I was able to load my savegame again. I doubt the crashes are gone though, as the game produced most of them after longer sessions of multiple hours. I will keep an eye on it
If the precompiled shader would have been just faulty and not completely absent, I would have had it attached to this post so you could attempt to debug it. But the log also told me that the game missed some PSD files to load, some of them dummy PSDs from a test_data directory; a dummy named "production_colony03_06_slot01_ice_diff.psd" and provided by a certain "raphael". I do hope you do not use this expensive Photoshop file format for texturing...
Yeah I have no I dear whats wrong played around with it cant find anything that works yet, sometimes works for 6h no problem most days it crashes or my computer does.... Game freezes says its still playing hours after crash most of the time...
Haven't lost any of my saved games yet thankfully one of them has about 500h on it and I cant be f starting again as this game just takes so long and finding island I like is a problem, I also like to have my islands build up fast, I get bored waiting for resources in a new game.
only just got the new DLC if i lost my two main game I don't think it even bother playing it anymore lol.
I mostly had it on pause, so I didn't really have any action nor any autosave going on, but I'll continue my diagnostics on that now. (The game saves every 5 minutes, and most of the times, the crashes occured together with autosave.)
I often pause the game and work in other applications or watch YouTube before I bring the game back up to continue it. Maybe that's not as good an idea as just to end the game and to pick it up again later on.
I let my PC cool down for now, maybe I return to the game later.
I'm sorry to hear you're facing these unusual crashes, I will do my best to help. Our team are currently investigating 1 type of crash, but it doesn't seem to resemble what you're experiencing.
Please answer the following as best you can -
- What are your PC specifications? Both hardware & operating system.
- Roughly how long has this issue been affecting you?
- Do you experience this issue in DX11, DX12 or both?
I appreciate you have answered some of these already in your posts above, I'd just like to compile everything together from your point of view.
As a troubleshooting step I'd like to suggest disabling background applications, just in case there's a conflict: https://support.ubisoft.com/Article/000063761
Also make sure both Windows Updates have been fully installed, and your video card drivers are fully up-to-date.
I'd also like to add that crashes that also affect your system are often not related to a game, but rather a driver or system update. Perhaps we can find something in common between both your systems.
Thank you for your time!

I have a Windows 10 Pro running on AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X CPU and AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics, 64 GB RAM.
Ever since I started playing your game. Last time, it happened today again. I deactivated Ubi Connect's Cloud Sync and went down to DX11 and "very high" graphic settings after DirectX reported something like "Undefined: Present!"
I experienced them for the first time in DX11 today, I had them in DX12 before.
This is a default go-to for every serious gamer and the first thing I check on every problem.
I already was able to reliably exclude hardware issues, such as RAM or VRAM defects by multiple memory checks. Since I always install the latest updates, the search for a common update causing the issues could be exhausting... however, I'd be glad to help out here.
Best regards,
Herzmut
Thank you for your detailed update!
In this case it would be really beneficial to take a look at your Dxdiag[support.ubisoft.com] and Msinfo[support.ubisoft.com] so that we can get a deeper look at the problem.
These files can be attached to a new case[support.ubi.com] so that we can take a look.

Windows 10
Problems Since Docklands DLC.
Both DX11 and DX12.
I have solved the system crash by replacing my power supply. all other systems are working fine, the game seams to have a lot of trouble with memory when running its at 99% capacity that's the only other problem I can find.
Game still crashes often however old saves or new games.
