I had also massive crashes but not when loading but right in the middle of the game without doing something special. I could fix it by starting Anno1800 from the nvidia launcher with their custom settings applied.

Edit:
Nevermind crashes also with Nvidia-Launcher unfortunately :(

Hey,

Do you receive an error message when the game crashes?

Nope no message at all, it starts up the process in a full screen only to crash out and have the ubisoft crash reporter thing pop up with no error mssage.

I have the same issue game starts to launch, black screen for a few seconds, and then send bug report window. I have tried validating game files, driver updates, and reinstalling UPlay. Checked the game_starter_log and uplay_crash_report both are empty. No luck...:steamsad:

same here crashes straight to desktop with no message. But UPLAY says crash log created and sent.. I can not even launch game and Valve will not refund my money because they count the 14 days to refund from the pre purchase date back in March when I had no way to test this game was not even going to Launch. Talking with Paypal about Valve illegal charge and no refund when they took my money a month ago and not even refund when I can only get to try to play game today and will not work .I am furious.

I had the same problem on a laptop (Windows 8.1). I had a black screen with just the Anno-mouse-arrow - then it crashed.

The problem was that Anno was trying to start with the onboard graphic card instead of the good one.
My husband solved the problem by editing the engine.ini file (C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Anno 1800\config) with the texteditor, he changed the adapter value from 1 to 0. In another case it could be the other way around, just try it. The counter starts by 0 for the first graphic adapter.

Maybe it helps.

For me the file isn't even created. It crashes beforehand. :(

*sigh* I was really looking forward to this game but it's nothing but crashes on startup. I don't even have a minute played on Uplay's stupid interface. I requested a refund as this is the only game that I have ever bought (at $60 no less!) that can't even load up without crashing. Not too hopeful they will give me a refund, as it is Ubisoft after all. Super disappointed in this game. Was really looking forward to playing it but now I've just burnt $60 for some broken software. Cool.

Oh and I tried this. It was set to 0 so tried setting it to 1. It gave me some driver error when I loaded the game so sadly this didn't work for me :(

Solved it by deactivating the Defender Ransomeware protection for folders. This basically blocked the access to the Documentsfolder for Anno which caused it to crash after starting a game. It loaded, showed the map with the contor and then after two short black frames crashed to desktop. So check your antivirus settings if you didn't maybe this helps.
