Is it worth buying items like the sewing threads?
Nullifies the need of sewing machines and fur coats for five minutes and it costs 10k.

I would assume you recover the costs easily if you have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of artisans...but at that point wouldn't you realistically have atleast sewing machines?

Coats might be a bit more complicated unless you have the woman that makes it so you use wool for the fur coats making it extremely easy to craft them....But sewing machines are fairly easy to get to.

Also never using consumable items, since it's not something you can rely on. There are a lot of non-consumable items that are really useful, though.
I mean. If was thinking if I got something like that for free as a quest reward it might be nice to add up some money since sales usually dont give much money back.
Yes, of course. If you get it for free as a reward, by all means, use it. I'd do the same.
What I meant was that I wouldn't normally go and *buy* them.

I usually avoid temporary items either on land or on the ships, in the grand scheme of things they change basically nothing

I too never really used the temporary ones, but i imagine they can be useful if you want to access a next population level quick and easy.

Yeah, as an example:

I used the one giving fur coats (and sewing machines) to allow me to reach Engineers way earlier.

A bit later I got the fashion designer and produced the fur coats locally, but well, the temp item was available and is pretty cheap anyway.

You can unlock the lady that allows to produce forcoats with wool as a Paloma drop (with golden tickets in the main menu) it for free at every save

Rushing engineers is a usage I suppose but you still can't maintain them and grow them. Also ..never experienced it but what happens when they loose the lower tier supplies? Would engineers go below 30 after loosing coats and machines?

You can calculate how many engineers would still live in a house. In this regard it does not matter if it is a "lower tier" or "higher tier" good. They all work the same.
