There's nothing in the holds at all. If I'm interpreting the thing right, I got two empty slots "+" where something can be stored. I never used the flagship at all til this quest started; therefore, there's nothing full in that I could've blundered before asking.
Book of Poems, or any other delivery quest item that you pick up from an AI, is supposed to be deposited into your ship's hold, and not dropped in the water, so don't fret too much. It's not supposed to be this way.
One thing: you say you had two empty slots. For your Flagship, you should see 3 slots on top, and 2 below. The TOP slots are all cargo slots, and are necessary for holding quest items like the Book of Poems. The two BOTTOM slots are for equipment to enhance your ship. These can't hold cargo. Are these the two open slots?
This is the only thing I can think of that would cause the Book to be chucked into the water, and you unable to pick it up.
Why didn't I think of that? Yes, the two bottom slots can't be used for picking up stuff. One of the three above need to be free.
Ok now that's a learning lesson. I got rid of something in my hold (steel), and was able to pick up the book. But I don't know why it was there in the first place. I always thought that was a permanent thing in my ship which is why I didn't understand.
Thank you.
The two slots below the cargo slots are for items that improve your ship, make it faster for example. You will find items like this in form of quest rewards for example or be able to buy them from traders.
The game doesn't do a very good job of explaining the most basic functions. They seem to assume players know this, and often they are right. But I think they need to consider even people who never touched a video game in their lives. Make a very basic tutorial for them.
Yes yes yes! I recently watched a video where a guy asked his girlfriend who had never played a video game before to play some of his favourite games and he would not help her. He had the same realization. If you don't know what all of this means, you can't apply it. If you don't know what to look for you can't find it. I have only started to play video games 4 years ago at the age of 54, and I had SUCH a learning curve. Fortunately my husband also played that game and he could help me out with the basics.
I saw these videos, they're fun to watch, it's cool to see someone who's had little or no connection to gaming just have a wide-eyed sense of wonderment!
I really like this game so I don't fault not understanding something more like I'm an old gamer who's lost too many brain cells over the decades. :P
