Is this game worth playing despite all the Ubisoft issues?

I bought this game a while back but was immediately put off by the Ubisoft hoops I had to jump through to start playing. Then I read the reviews ... It's being sitting unplayed in my library ever since.

I've enjoyed all previous Anno titles and it's time to scratch that itch again, but I don't have enough free time and head space to deal with launcher problems and getting locked out of the game.

Honestly now, is it worth it? Otherwise I will just fire up Venice again.

Some people have said that they had some instal issues and getting their ubisoft connect account linked up. I have had no such issues.

This is my first Anno game so I can't really compare it to other title, but if you played and enjoyed the other games then I'm sure this would be great for you also.

I have been playing it for weeks now. Really enjoying it. So I would say yes.

Only technical issue I've had was that I have to load the mods manually on startup. But that's easy.
The two main mods I use are the 1/4 time speed and the zoom out more.

I do like the bigger harbour area though. More breathing room for building up your harbours.

It's worth it. The DLCs are awesome, too. Got the Annoversary edition.

It was a bit of a pain to setup for me, but now it's working. Had to uninstall the Ubisoft malware then reinstall to play. Micromanagement nightmare with little indication of what's going on, seems to not be worth it at all.

I have 650 hours game time and never had any problem with the laucher.

Just got the game recently, clocked up nearly 60 hrs already and have had no issues with the launcher at all. The game? Well, it's fantastic!

The launcher is designed by morons and is a disgrace. 99% of the negative reviews of the game are because of it.

I often see a message saying cannot authenticate, try again later. Totally unacceptable after I paid a lot of money for the game on Steam which I am already logged into.

Sometimes when I close the game I get an error saying cannot open the game!

Frequent errors about syncing with the cloud.

I have 500 hours in game, so the launcher does ‘work’ eventually but it’s very temperamental and deserves the hate it gets.

Thanks for the reasoned responses. It's temping to give it a go. Seems like pure luck whether the launcher will be a problem or not. Perhaps things like turning off cloud saves will help.

I do understand why devs need to safeguard their software. If gamers had a little more integrity it wouldn't be necessary. But man, it's a lot of hoops to jump through to simply play a game. There has to be a better solution.

i realy dont understand people complain so heavylie about ubisoft..

yes they had big problems with launcher and connectivity..

but if i am not wrong they handelt those issues. you have to have the ubisoft connect program/app on your computer. it does nothing more then beeing in the background. you can even use cheats or your own mods.. it will not prevent anything. if you have no acces that could mean that some one in the darknet tryed getting acces into your account because he found your emailadress.

The simple answer is Yes. This is the best city builderr i've ever played, last time i played anything close to this was age of empires II. it's not a coincidence that most of the negative reviews are people complaining about ubisoft, instead of the game, or gameplay. just haters. I'd highly recommend playing it and deciding for yourself, if it's fun or not.
