thats what i was thinking. because with grain, peppers, fur AND OIL you could cheekily cheese your way from farmers to investors without ever needing to discover the new world, with clever dockland trading for cotton and coffee.
Which is exactly what i was going to attempt
i have a savegame where i have it set up exactly like that, and its been running for 200 hours in the background, and i did not think of them FOR A SECOND before making this thread.
just schooled myself.
I usually get an island with grain, potatoes, hops and furs, buy the pepper seeds item from kahina and the expert that allows me to produce furcoats with wool instead of cotton from Eli (it's called costume designer).
You won't be able to progress all the way through but having all the needs up to the engineers (except coffee, rum and bikes) produced in the old world really gets you a lot of room to set things up good
