a couple bucks aren't worth the time and work to create and manage a whole new account. Steam is the way for me

Was thinking about buying the full hog. Then I found out I'd need Ubisoft account and yet another launcher installed on my PC. Installing and running yet another resource hog and giving my info to a company that doesn't need it is a no-go in my book.

I would rather kill myself than buy games for cheaper on another platform! In Steam We Trust!

It's your money. Buy from any store you think gives you the best deal as long as there are no platform conflicts between the base game and different DLCs from other stores. Afaik, in the case of Anno, DLCs from other stores don't work with the base game on Steam. Conversely, Steam DLCs don't work with the base game you get from other stores. But if like me, you never got the game and DLCs on Steam/Epic but either directly from Ubisoft store or other third-party stores that activate them directly through Ubisoft Connect, they should all run fine as long as they can activate in your country.

Steam also isn't always the most price competitive. As far as Ubisoft games are concerned, Ubisoft is the default launcher and Steam is the extra platform. I'm not saying this because I'm an Ubisoft fan but as a matter of fact. Think of it this way: Many games activate on Steam regardless what store they sell in because they use Steam as the default launcher. Similarly, all Ubisoft games activate on Ubisoft Connect regardless what store they sell in (including Steam) because they use Ubisoft Connect as the default launcher.

Steam also has horrible policies and horrible people running the platform.

As of now and for the last 20 years has been the best, what will happen in the future no one can really predict, but being so dominant, profitable and so well regarded it would be stupid and unlikely for things to change
