Srsly, I feel there are not many games similar to Anno directly. Most building games are more like sandbox experiences and I absolutely love campaign in Anno 1800! I think it is brilliant and I am loving every second of it!
I've been following a few tubers announcing building games for 2024, and there will be many of them. Frostpunk 2 spiked my interest (especially after I played Frostpunk recently, a great surviving city builder), as well as Manor Lords (visually thrilling semi RTS game imo).
Maybe check these two if you like genre in general, but if you seek the closest gameplay might check out Kaiserpunk too. It's not out yet, but devs seem to draw a lot of ideas from Anno, they even say it openly. If they do a proper job, I think it might be a really cool game. World wars theme, storyline and such, but also has grand strategy features. Not certain how it will all work together but sounds interesting so far.
Don't forget to check out Bulwark as well while throwing promising games out here
A remake of 2205 based on the gameplay of 1800 would probably be a far better game, and something I'd enjoy a lot.
1602 is good, simple but interesting to play if only for see where it all began, I personally like the stylized graphics of the late 90s, 1503 gets more complex and the graphics it's a bit exaggerated, I personally find it very tiring and has some overly complicated mechanics, 1701 is the first 3d Anno, love the style, love the graphics, the water looks amazing, but after playing more complex Annos it feels a bit lackluster, not very many chains, not very many goods, it's somewhat of a simplified 1404. 1404 is the top: awesome graphics after all these years (HE of course), very balanced, very enjoyable, lot of things to do and to produce, 2 different cultures (like olde and new world) on the same archipelago, first time items and experts are introduced in the series, great monuments to build, top notch. 2070 is somewhat of an hybrid between Anno and some scifi builder, it has the classic building, road, house structure, but everything looks so futuristic and alien, goods there were in the series for decades are being replaced, pollution mechanic is introduced for the first time, and there are three different factions but no faction is really flashed out. fun but mediocre.
