VEGAN GAMERS COMPLETELY IGNORED
I was deeply disappointed in the game ANNO 1800 when I discovered that animal agriculture is required to play the game. There are no options to do something different to achieve goals in the game, at all. I find it disturbing to have to have pig farms, slaughterhouses, fur hunting, all of it. So, I paid for this game & I can't play it. The makers of games in this day & age of 2024 need to change with the times. Many people do not want to even pretend to abuse animals in a computer game. It's not fun, it's disturbing. Thanks for listening.

No real pigs were harmed in the creating of this game. (well except maybe for the yearly 4th of july bbq)

Kinda similar to how no real humans were killed in this game where you sink lots of ships or no humans were harmed in this game where you can deprive populations of access to hospitals and have them die in masses to epedemics.

I don't know all the items by head, but their may be items that allow you to work around animal agriculture. Some items you can put in the townhall and they will satisfy citizens needs without the actual product. Not certain if it exists for sausages and fur coats.
I don't have a problem with killing fake humans. I have a problem with animals being used for a game that could easily use something else to advance the progress. I've tried playing the game several times but it's impossible without sausages & fur & fish etc. The fact that it bothers me seems to sail over the heads of most people. That's why vegans have such a hard time, dealing with people with no empathy.

Tough ♥♥♥♥.
Im not going to assume this is trolling but a legitimate point, to that all I can say is, this is not graphical and I dont understand how one could play anything that is about killing other humans and balk at harming animals.

And just because a lettuce doesnt scream is still a living being, that said your best bet is modding, also this is 1800, veganism and vegetarianism were not mainstream at all during that time in west europe (where this is largely based), browsing mods earlier they did have a mention of vegan so you might wanna check that

Cheers.
Just go: Escape - Options - Vegan mode on. Pigs are still in the game but they grow on trees, making them plants and not animals.
I think this might be my fault, as I recommended this game to the original poster, knowing she was vegan but underestimating how much even simulated animal processing would bother her. I can confirm she isn't just trolling, as she is my mother and we argued about this in real life. If anyone has any suggestions regarding a vegan mod or another workaround we would appreciate it.
I'm gonna make a meat farm island and name it elfwitch5.

There is nothing like that for the game to my knowledge. And given the setting of the game, I doubt there ever will be.

The closest you could get would be by using the "Pescatarians" mod, which adds a new type of population (-> Pescatarians), and a small number of optional replacements for existing products, e.g. making plant-based soap instead of using pig tallow.
But this only influences a small part of the early game - the rest of the game remains unchanged, so if you're a die-hard vegetarian or vegan, this mod won't really make the game any more playable.

Given the game is essentially set in the 19th Century, what made you think that animal based products wouldn't feature in it? If you or she were that bothered about it, simple research of the Wiki would have shown you what products were in the game.
Docklands can be used to avoid some goods to be produced like Furs

You would still be importing things made from furs, though...
