So 20 Farmer Residences use twice as much stuff as 10 of them.
If you want to know if you produce enough go to the statistics menu and compare the bares, green (production) bar should be full and blue (consumption) bar should be tiny bit less than that, then you have enough of it.
The wiki has the consumption rates, you can calculate if you want (yes its a bit of work).
For example: A single Schnapps brewery running at 100% can supply 60 Farmer Houses or 30 Worker houses.
So if you have 60 Farmer and 60 Worker houses, you will need 3 of them
