Empire of the Skies

I just purchased this, but I was wondering if I need The Passage dlc to make it work. Wanted to check while the sale is still going on.

Each DLC is self-contained; none of them depends on any other to actually work in the basic manner. There may be interactions between them that improve things, but Empire of the Skies will work without the Passage. You will be restricted to Helium airships; you won't be able to build Arctic Gas airships (unless you have a mod to make it somewhere else.

The two DLCs have completely separate types of airships. If you only have The Passage, then you can only build the airships included in that DLC and you can only build them with arctic gas (probably representing hydrogen in this case).

If you only have Empire of the Skies, then you can only build the airships included in that DLC, and you can only build them with helium.

If you have both DLC, then you can build all the different types of airships from both DLCs, and you can also choose whether you want to build them using arctic gas or helium. In this case, the choice of material also means the choice of different performance characteristics.
