I'd recommend not doing that. Concentrate on advancing a single island all the way to Engineers until you can build the Commuter Pier.
Every other island can stay at Peasants + Workers, since most Old World islands can supply them self-sufficiently.
The Commuter Pier allows all islands in the same region that have a Commuter Pier to share workforce, meaning the Artisans and Engineers on your main island can then also work on other islands, and you don't need to supply all the islands with all the goods.
By default, the Commuter Pier can only be built in the Old World and Cape Trelawney, but there's mods for that in case you're interested.
