Does this game have land combat?
Yeah, some people thought the combat in 1404 was bad but I liked it. Is it just ship combat in this or is there any land combat?

There are no land combats in Anno 1800.
Maybe there‘s a mod for this.

That's too bad. I was looking for something around the mid-gunpowder timeperiod that's a sim but also with combat.

Civilization 4: Colonization with the "We the People" mod, is a fantastic game. Similar to Anno in setting, but plays very differently, of course.

Best land combat was in Anno 1503, imo. Would be great, if the next Anno would be heavily inspired by this.

ey there! So, when it comes to Anno 1800, the focus is primarily on city-building, trade, and naval exploration. The game doesn't delve deeply into land combat mechanics, and the warfare aspect is more centered around naval battles. It's about strategically expanding your empire, managing resources, and dealing with the challenges that arise from diplomacy and trade.

Now, if land combat is a major factor in your gaming preferences, Anno 1800 might not scratch that particular itch. However, there are plenty of other games out there that offer robust land combat experiences.

The police beat up union protesters to submission, so kinda? lol
Lord Haart Nov 17, 2023 @ 5:25am
While it's essential to have open discussions about law enforcement practices and the right to protest, using humor in this context may inadvertently downplay the challenges faced by both police officers and protesters. Our law enforcement personnel play a crucial role in maintaining order and ensuring public safety. They often face difficult decisions and challenging situations, and it's important to acknowledge their efforts and dedication to their duty.

nope, it's all naval. the anno series it's always been more on the managing and building side of strategy than combat

would love to see land comabt in the next game for sure, some landing operation would be fun

I would hate to see more land combat in the next game. It has gradually reduced in importance over the course of the series to zero from 2070 onwards and I am glad of that. This game is not primarily about war and naval battles are enough to acquire other islands.
I would be OK with it if it was totally optional, but not if it was essential either to the story line or to acquiring new islands.
Anno is not a combat game. It is primarily about resource management and city building. I have nothing against that genre, and if that's what you like, that's fine. There are plenty out there, and I play some of them.

I don't want any land combat, but I am sad you can't build any city walls as decorations...
Lord Haart Nov 18, 2023 @ 9:01am
Perhaps, in the future, the developers might consider introducing decorative elements like walls, not for strategic purposes but for the sheer joy of city beautification. Until then, let's embrace the challenge of defending our empires without the comfort of decorative walls and revel in the realism it brings to our gaming experience.

If you want proper land combat, maybe Total War games are more for you. Past titles aside, I never want land combat in an Anno game because it isn't practical in a hardcore resource city builder management game like this. It'd take too long to accumulate enough resources to hire and replenish troops as well as build transport ships and escorts. To make land combat practical, you'd have to abstract certain mechanics, like having resource capture points (which would turn it into a traditional RTS) or armies that cost little/no resources and only upkeep (which would make it a Total War game).

Cosmetic DLC "Old Town Pack" includes decorative city walls.

2070's combat was way worse, I'd rather have land armies than aircraft.
