good fertilizer layouts?

im annoyed that apparently only tropical animals poop so i need some help on the most efficient way to plan a fert supply chain.

You can make dung in the OW. Item Animal Nutritionist makes dung at Sheep, Pig and Cattle Farms

Yes. You will need to ship the ow poop to the new world to process.

Just for my curiosity: is the fertilizer worth the effort? As there are so many other ways to push crops production (tractors, items, zoo sets)

Quick answer is Yes, certainly in New World where space is often at a premium. I use all of the above. Fertiliser gives 100% bonus, whereas zoo is usually about 10-20%. Seems a pretty good deal for just a 2 x 3 building per farm plus a couple of 4x3s. I use layouts that cluster farms, with both fertiliser and tractor, around a Trade Union of boosting items. It depends a little on the farm type, but production rates of 550% can be achieved.

Yes it really is. With your trade unions pushing your production to producing your product every second, or whatever, and your fertilizer giving an extra per cycle is pretty huge.

Silos increase dung production. Wherever you decide to level up to Artistas, having a central area for the animals helps. I can usually support three fertilizer factories off of the animals needed to support a larger population + Silos. That is enough to send up to the Old World for beer and bread.....depending on what you were trying to do.
