I cant remember ever loving AI characters so much...they're very well fleshed out, cleverly executed...as if the game didnt have enough going for it already.

This is an absolute classic in my all time Hall of Fame.

There is! Spice it Up is an awesome mod pack on Nexus, it has "AI Shipyard" mod which let you create/spawn a new additional AI opponent ship on your current game which the new opponent AI will use to settle an island and then expand and behave like other AI on your current game, but it has limitation due to game engine where you can only engage to 5 AI (pirate included) in the diplomacy tab, meaning that you can't interact with your newly spawned AI diplomatically, it is still an amazing mod because i always declare wars to all AI and adding new enemies to the game is fun. There is a workaround for this in Anno Modding Discord for AI diplomacy but i haven't tried it yet.
