Upgrading later?
Hello together,

I am planning to buy the standard version of the game. As I read several times now the DLCs are making the game better. Don't they just add some campaigns?

My actual question: After buying the standard version is there anyway to upgrade to the complete versions for the game with a discounted price due to having already purchased the standard game?

Thanks in advance! :)

You can buy the standard version and start playing without the DLCs. I would recommend this anyway, otherwise the content is too overwhelming when you start your first game with all DLCs.
The DLCs don't add just few campaigns. Every Season Pass includes also much more content to the game, unlocks huge new areas, airships, research institute, items, monuments, production chains, and so on.
Then you can buy the DLCs one buy one, per ex. when they are on sale, and add them to your already existing game. You get this choice only once, otherwise you need to start a new game to include the DLCs in it.
Can't answer about the procedere to get complete edition.

Season Pass 1 and 2 add new maps, specifically 1 additional map each for the old world, the arctic, and africa. Each of these maps has their own small local storyline, and all of them come on top of what is already in the base campaign/sandbox game.

Season Pass 4 adds a couple scenario maps that are played separately from the base campaign/sandbox game.

On top of those changes, every Season Pass/DLC also adds more stuff that has an effect on the entire game, no matter the gameplay mode, like new buildings, mechanics etc.

Ok, thank you for your responses :)

I presumably buy the standard version and will purchase additional season passes if the game is fun for me. Unfortunate that there is no discount probably.

Pretty hyped as I played a lot of Anno 1701 since release.

That's a good way to do it. And there will definitely be discounts in the future.

Just be aware, people have reported that you can't buy the complete edition if you already own the base game. You can still turn off certain DLC when starting a game not to be too overwhelmed by the all the DLC. I've not paid much attention to how much seperate dlc costs however. There are a lot of sales anyway, 3 that I know of so far this year.

It's all on sale right now. I bought the game and all 4 season pass's for around 90$CAD. Total steal, best value in gaming ive gotten in awhile. Mind you i played the base game for about 90mins to test it out first. I wouldnt miss out if you have the money!, but try the base game out first for 90 mins, dont go over 2 hours so you can return it still if you want.

Correct. So be aware, Homuno, that the Complete Edition of the game does NOT function like a Steam Bundle. It is basically a re-release of the game with all content combined into one solid piece, so it will NOT remove portions of the game you already own and adjust the price accordingly.

If you buy the base game, the only way to add the DLCs later is to buy the Season Passes.

So your choice is to either buy the Complete Edition at $53.99 (sale price) to get everything all at once.

Or, spend a total of $71.19 to buy the same content, on sale, spread out over a period of time:

Base Game: $14.99
Season 1: $12.49
Season 2: $12.49
Season 3: $9.99
Season 4: $16.24
Deluxe Pack: $4.99 (optional IMO. Many of the features it did have are now free, so now it only adds one Medium difficulty AI opponent, so $66.20 without this one)

Spread out over time, this isn't bad at all, but it's up to you.

Alright guys, thank you very much for your insights :)
I just bought the standard version. Very unfortunate that there is no way to upgrade later, but I can live with that.

You can always buy DLC later.

I own te base game on epic games for years (it was not on steam in the past). I definitely would like to have te complete game on steam. I know on epic I can's buy the complete edition anymore as I own de base game there. Does this also mean that I can't by the complete edition on steam. In other words is this a ubisoft isue or not.

From what I'm seeing in the steam store, you can buy the complete edition while owning the base edition, you just have to pay for the base game again - it isn't implemented as a bundle and thus doesn't discount you for stuff you already own. (Though I fully admit, I haven't actually put that to the test.)

It's cheaper to buy Anno 1800 - Definitive Annoversary but only if you knew you like game, I suggest to watch anno 1800 gameplay or there was time free to play anno 1800, because once you brough anno 1800 base, you end up paid lot more once you find out you like the game, so, I think it's might be better off buy Definitive Annoversary, it's very risky one might enjoy game or not, although.
